I play for the game.

when i first got my PS3, trophies were all i lived for, MORE GAMES, MORE TROPHIES, **** YEAH!

But then i played a few games, like the GOW collection that were real trophy throwers, it just numbed me to them, now i don't much care anymore

Oh my god, brilliant topic. I wonder why I haven't seen someone make a topic for this yet? Whydidn't I thinkof it!?

Anyway, I use trophies as a way to increase a game's replay value. It's like a challenge to overcome with bragging rights if you're able to complete them:P. I recently purchased Dead Space in the hopes of finishing up what my rental couldn't back when the game first came out. I beat what left of the game I had today and it was a very good game, but I would have no desire to go back through and replay itif I didn't have an extra driving force(Trophies).

It depends on the game. If I really like the game, the trophies will be an extra sidequest to collect, which is a games aspect I enjoy. But normally I wouldn't bother with trophies, unless I'm bored and nothing else to do :|

Trophies give you a nice little list of extra things you can do during a game that you probably wouldn't bother with otherwise, or even know about. For instance with Red Dead Redemption, I would have never known you could hogtie a woman and put her on the railroad tracks and watch her get run over by a train. And I never would have bothered to get legendary status in one of the ambient challenges. That stuff added some extra fun to the game that I wouldn't have gotten otherwise. And it's always kind of neat to see your trophy count go up.

Trophies mean nothing to me. I can see why they add another element of challenge/replay value for others, which is great for them, I just don't personally get that from them.

Trophies are great at adding replay value and added challenge to your games. It's a nice feeling to fully complete a game you've enjoyed.

Trophies mean nothing to me honestly. I am more about the achievements on the 360, which can be strange to some. "You like achievements but not trophies?". I'm not sure what it is, but I only play my PS3 for exclusives and play everything else on my 360. That's what the majority of my friends have and I enjoy playing multiplayer as opposed to anything else. Since I find myself on my 360 more because of this, I have a stronger feeling towards achievements due to the competitive nature between friends. Even with achievements though, I don't go for all of them. I don't care about getting 100% completion of games like platinum PS3 trophies. I would rather go after achievements such as "Mile High Club". Those intrigue me more as opposed to playing a game's story mode to death. When I've played through a story and know everything that's going to happen, the second playthrough has very little excitement. I like the unknown, so playing to 100% completion would drive me crazy.

I'm a casual trophy hunter.

I play the game and whatever trophies I get while completing it I enjoy; but I am not going out of my way to get trophies that aren't linked directly into completing the game.

gives me replay value. If it wasn't for trophies i probably wouldn't have played dead space on impossible, which was a blast. They open up a new spectrum for playing a game AND developers can use trophies to show off features of a game that would have otherwise been missed. Exmpl: Tekken 6 i wouldnt have played the scenario mode if it didnt have trophies, alas I ended up having a lot of fun with it

I see them as challenges. Extra gameplay that can extend the replay value of most games.

The worst thing you can do with trophies is to go after them because you think that other people will care about the trophies you have, because people dont. If you want the challenge or feel compelled to 100% finish a game, go for it, but dont go for it because you think others will respect you or whatever, thats just laughable.

honestly i feel like no one else cares about your trophies except for you. for example, when i see someone who has a lvl 9, i dont think "oh boy he must be great at gaming". instead i think " boy this guy has too much time on his hands"

i dunno but thats just my opinion.

I agree that no one cares about your trophies except for yourself. If you are going for trophies for any reason other than your own entertainment, then you are doing it wrong. But, why do you care about other peoples then? Why judge someone else for how they game and spend their free time?

Nothing really it's nice to earn them but I won't push myself to do tedious missions like collecting certain objects which I get bored of very easily. Once I've finished a game I usually move straight on to another.

^ this. You also can get more value out of your purchase. I usually go through games once normally and if I want to play it more, I have a look at the trophy list to see, what I could do

hmm i guess what i meant came out a bit wrong. i didn't mean it in an offensive way like " you have no life other than video games." i play too, sometimes more than i should, but i'd be a hypocrite if i were to accuse someone of "over-playing". as long as collecting trophies makes you happy, go for it ! it sure makes me happy and i'm proud of some of the difficult achievement i acquired.

I get them, but not very fanatically. The game itself is more important to me, but I usually get trophies here and there for the hell of it.
