For the life of me I can't find the best way or even a good way to clean this dust magnet that is the PS3.  I mean I have a special cloth for Laptop LCDs and Plasma screens that I tried and stopped quickly because I saw it leaving small microsurface scratches where I was using it.  I am totally lost and can't find any way to clean it w/o scratching it.  I am going to start resorting to using a can of air.  And yes before you ask, I am that anal about this stupd stuff, it's a curse I know.

I use a microfiber cloth.  I had one that came with my psp that i used for a while but it was small.   Now I'm using the one that came with my new tv which also has a glossy finish to it.

I just use a cotton towel and lightly wipe it over the surface. It does the job of removing the dust and I guess you could see some microsurface scratches but a microfiber cloth shouldn't't leave any big scratches and the microsurface ones are probably only visible if you're looking really close or in the right lighting. That's cool if you like keeping you're stuff in mint-condition though. I was like that about my ipod when I first got it and after the first few scratches I just gave up. I would recommend standing your ps3 vertically. I found that it doesn't collect as much dust on the sides (the sides would be the top if it was horizontal though). When standing vertical more dust would now land on the top with the exhaust vents and that can be easily wiped off without showing scratches like the glossy cover. Otherwise compressed air does seem like the best solution and that way nothing touches the surface to scratch it.

Suppose you could use one of those cloths you get with glasses.  I imagine since they are specifically designed not to scratch, they'll be pretty effective.

only the greatest of minds think alike.

and for those wanting to remove any dust from inside your PS3 without having to take the risk of opening it and totally destroying it, just dump it into water for 4-7 minutes. don't forget that the PS3 is water proof. look on page 17 in the PS3 manual. it's written in tiny text. Sony always has a plan, i tell you.

O_O what's all the talk about the PS3 scratching so easily?

I use a simple piece of cloth and gently wipe of the dust. No scratches whatsoever.

^^ its really is the easiest way, and if it gets to hot you can just dump in the snow for a little while, or throw it in the freezer for a couple minutes :) but i find just giving it a quick spritz of liquid nitrogen works best :)

ya i guess, since i've been on these forums i've seen people take the little discs out of the UMD case and try to play them on psp, try to burn PS3 games onto their computers, and cut the third prong off their PS3 cords thinking that way they wouldn't need a grounded outlet.  happy times :)

Swiffer Dusters work the best.  Takes only like 5 seconds and doesn't scratch it.  I use it about once a day since my house gets really dusty.
