To be honest I think it's just a novelty, and soon that novelty will wear off.

personally, i was stoked when i saw it, if they do things like being able to join large numbers of people and watch (from the virtual crowd/arena) 2 good gamers go at it in boxing or hockey or something it won't get old. If its just interacting and watching movies at your buddies virtual space, it could get old. unless my friends start getting ps3s of course........as long as they keep it dynamic and fresh like my stadium idea it wont get old

When I saw the "watch your friends streaming movies" all I could think about is Bootlegs and Porno central.

The whole design seems to be targeting casual gamers.  Its different and I approve of risks, but I don't know if it'll pay off.

I think it sucks, but casuals will like it. So good for them.

Home has definitely intrigued me with its trophy system, especially that Senate from Star Wars like view of the ones that you haven't gotten yet.

As far as how it can help, I think there's aspects of Home that can intrigue people. We just got to wait until more is shown and told about these aspects.

I'll test it out, play around and make a 'living space' to show off. But, what I'm really looking forward to, is showing it off to my Xbox 360 friends...hopefully they will get a thought such as, "Why doesn't 360 have that?" And then laugh at the look on their faces. Hopefully they will then know that I own the 'better' console. And I agree, it will go well for causal gamers. Most "hardcore" gamers will want to play games/

if the characters can walk around and join a boxing ring and battle it out in front of a big crowd that would be awesome. also being able to play a basketball game on a court or tennis. my jaw would drop if you can do all of this in HOME. turning mini arcade games into virtual reality.

50/50 one half of me is excited the other is afrade it will just blow and sony will still miss the point that friends ivites and messages need to be able to be checked no matter what game your playing. just press the PS button and your good to go! if they can add the basics in a simple form with out having to connect to home then they will have somthing. if not i really think most people will have little to no intrest in it.

I was blown away by the GDC presentation... I just saw so much potential. Watching movies with your friends in HD, just by streaming the content. WOW... you'd be like... "Ok guys, I just rent this BD and it seems really cool... any1 wanna watch??" That would totaly beat going to the movies (unless you're going out with a lady and all you want is take her panties off...) because I've seen how great bd movies look on my HDTV. Also creating a space for your own clan... that's something very important for hardcore gamers. In the PC world we have to connect to Teamspeak or Ventrilo to comunicate with everyone... just imagine how cool it would be to do it @HOME and loading the game from there with everyone and after the match everyone can relax, play some music, play some arcade games, watch some movies :P Sony is 2 steps ahead of everyone

I was impressed at first, but then realized that I will have to wait and see what will become of it. Like so many things that were promised in the past, I want to see if anything works first and how can it be expanded, and then I will decide.

Question for all the "gamin'" lawyers out there.... AFAIK it is illegal to rent/buy a movie and show it to a group of people (10+ I think).  With the ability to do so with @Home would one be breaking the law by streaming videos to potentially large groups of  people?

Keep in mind that this is just something I've heard and not really sure if it's even a law so no flaming please

Plus do people understand how much bandwidth it would take to stream HD content to more then one person over the net?

You can't stream DVDs or Blu-Ray in Home because of copy-protection issues. See the Q&A in my sig.

I think it's cool looking, but I don't like that the servers only have 64 people, and it seems a cumbersome way to go about getting into games with your pals. Furthermore, I don't really see myself wanting to show people movies or let them listen to music with me. And if they think I'm going to buy furniture and stuff, they have got another thing coming. I wonder if it will help make the PS3 a more viable online platform, or if it will just be another layer of annoyance required to get into games. Plus, the character customization options had better be more varied than what I've seen. Everyone doesn't want to dress in HotTopic garb. But the price is right. I just think it needs to be the 1st of many improvements to the PS3 in order to make it worth the $600.

I personally don't care about Home right now. I will not fully condemn it until I've actually used it. To me it is just a Second Life application for the PS3. I have zero interest in dressing my dude up and decorating an apartment. I know the day it comes out, I will download it and tinkering around with it. I don't expect to spend much time with it after the first day though. I could be proved wrong, so I'll just wait and see. I would rather Sony spend time cloning Xbox Live than Second Life. The current online system is lame.

Not impressed. They should concentrate on a global friendslist and global voicechat instead. Having to quit a games to send or read messages is lame. Not being able to chat with people anytime you want is also lame.

There are tons of other features they should fix first. Upscaling DVD's, downscaling BD to 720p, let you play your own musik in the games, connectivity to your PC. The list is long. Instead we get a virtual chat. Lame.

The point everyone criticising HOME seems to be missing is that its free, and its not being forced on people.  I'm not saying people aren't entitled to an opinion on it, but it seems like a lot of people are a little too vehement in their criticisms of HOME, as if they're actually angry that its coming out.  At the end of the day, it's free, and can be ignored by the PS3 user who doesnt want to use it, but don't get stressed about it, life's too short!

Personally I think it could be a fun way to get updates on the ps3, and associated game companies.  So instead of going to Insomniacs website on my PC to check if they have any new games coming out, I could potentially wander over to their personal room and watch a video on their wall, or view character models through a glass screen in HOME.  Other than that, I doubt ill be using it that much, but I do like the possibilities it opens.Â
