You will have to wait for a long time, since I'm sure it's a few years off. And since developers don't pay attention to fanboys, I'm sure you'll end up disappointed.
I want to do only one thing. Run games. I'm tired of paying extra crap that I don't use. If I want music and movies I'll buy a dedicated device that will give me more capabities.

Be able to play movies and music did not add to the hardware cost of the psp. All of that is run from the processor using data from the firmware. There is no dedicated movie player in your psp that you can remove to lower the cost.
What I want in the PSP2 is a large backwards compatible library of PS2 games.
that would be amazing but yeah the a bigger bc list from ps2 would be awesomeI just want it to pop out chicken nuggets every 30 seconds

[QUOTE="FILIPINOMAZTER"]HD graphicslewisg1212lmao no thanks. imagine having that many pixels on a screen that small!
I think that would be pretty cool... but the graphics are already pretty high-res as it is.

Any costs in R&D that went into capabilities that weren't directly related to playing games would ultimately be accounted for in the unit cost of a psp, which would then be passed on to the consumer in one way or another. If you don't think that they spent money on codecs for playing back videos and music that was passed on to us, thats just being naive. Firmware doesn't appear out of nowhere. They spent alot of money trying to turn the psp into a versitile little media player, same as they did with the PS3. Software can often times require a larger investment of capital than that of hardware, especially in the long term. Blu-ray wasn't delayed a whole year because of hardware. It was because they couldn't get the drm and codecs to play nice, and they are paying for it with decreased sales due to a higher than what would have been necessary price model. So back to the psp, if they cut all the fat and make a system that only plays games, they could easily lower the price 20-30 dollars per unit at least. Right now Sony is on some crazy trip in that they are trying to be the mack daddy media kings. The ps2 was so succesful because all it did well was games. It did play dvds and cds, but neither was up to standalone quality. If all the ps3 did was play games, we'd be seeing a 200-300 dollar price point and many more sales accordingly.
In short, there is much more under the hood than people realize. PS3-psp connectivity, umd playback, audio playback, video playback, remote play, skype, dlna, RSS, internet browsing, tivo, photos, internet radio, psn, etc... So yes, there is a ton of fat to cut. I just want a lean mean, game only machine. You put the disc in and play the game. Pop the disc out, and it should say, "insert game disc or shut down system". Oh, and maybe a savegame manager. Thats it.
For it to play UMDs, this is only because I've heard they've canned it. Stupid PSP 2!meconateSame here but who knows they may make a device that will allow you to transfer your UMD games, movies or whatever the heck you want to transfer to your psp2. You'll have to download a software onto your computer( which a CD will come with the device when you buy it), plug it into your computer, plug your psp2 into your computer, and just drag the games to your psp2 game file folder and you'll be able to play your UMD games like you still have the UMD drive. That would probably be a good Idea. But I doubt that'll happen.
