The GS review sites such things as boring missions, dull visuals and awful humor/dialogue. But I'd like to know, what do all of you personally find wrong with the game that make(s) it so bad, and what score would you personally give it?

I was just watching the trailer and despite the reviews, it seems like a rather interesing game with some pretty awesome-looking enemies and even some guilty fun. I know it's just a trailer, and as most game trailers go, the game looks better than it really is. But I'm not entirely sure about how bad this one really is, and would really like to know what is so wrong with it.

I was also quite a fan of Duke Nukem 3D so that may be a reason for my curious interest.

already finished the game even before reviews came out and i'll agree with what most critics say. it's a solid 7.0 title. it's not the best, but it's worth checking out since this game is 12 years too late. if this was a $15-20 title, it would probably be worth the buy, but it just did not have enough enjoyment for me to classify this game as a full $60 title.

I've been having a lot of fun with the game. The reviews are too harsh imo. They seem to nit pick a lot.. the joke made about valve puzzles etc.. Duke makes fun of himself. It's not a game that takes itself seriously. Some reviewers were talking about the sense of humour and how you can pick up poop out of the toilet.. what did they expect? They had a whole trailer based upon that very thing before the game came out. The game is a lot of fun and thats what counts. Is it worth $60? I'd say probably not. It is a lot longer than most shooters out there today though and the game is meant to be like old school shooters.. that it, its about fun. The plays out more like Half Life, there are a lot of platforming and puzzles to solve to move on to the next section.

Reviews in general seem to be getting bizarre lately. I'm playing Hunted The Demon's Forge, which got lousy review yet I had a really good time with it. Duke Nukem got crappy scores, apparently because reviewers were offended by the humor? Who knows. I see now they're giving the new Transformers game a 5.5/10.

As far as I'm concerned, reviews have reached the point where they're not worth looking at any more. Pretty much anybody can predict what score the next big AAA title will get, even before it's started development, within +/- .5 points. And these scores for the lesser known games are really off-the-wall. There's something odd going on here.

It depends on what number score means average 5, 6, or 7. For me Average is about a six, where nothing is really wrong with it but nothing is that good. Duke Nukem was mediocre in every way, load times and graphics were terrible, has poor online, and it was pretty short. The last few levels were terrible, it fails as being a nod to old school games and at implementing the good features of newer games, and it adds no new weapons (and less items) then the game had in 1996 (even though other Duke Nukem games since then have had new guns). Had a few jokes that got a little laugh out of me but most of it wasn't funny and if I wanted a laugh it would be a much better (and cheaper) buy to get something like Comic Jumper The Adventures of Captain Smiley or Deathspank. So, I thought the game was below average, had some additional problems, and has no real replay value, I guess I'd say about a 4. Not broken or god awful but not that fun and there are far better options out there.

We could just ignore the score completely and read the reviews.

I was a fan of the original and I'd give it around a 5 out of 10.

Its nice to see Duke again but the game sure isn't worth 60 bucks.

There are so many better games you can get for 60 bucks - Infamous 2 comes to mind.

Its not that the game is horrible (well the online is) but it feels old and unless you want to take a trip down memory lane, there's nothing here (from what I've played so far) that'll make you go wow.

If you're curious and can't get it on the cheap, I'd just wait for the price to drop.

It just looks bad to me. I didn't see anything that would make me want to even rent this game. It doesn't at all look like the developers took their time on it. Compared to modern shooters, Duke Nukem doesn't look like its worth it. I've seen it and will leave it alone.

I think they might be, something called Duke Nukem 3D: Reloaded. I'm not sure if it's still active or if it will be on consoles.

Lets address your points sentence by sentence.

Barely. The game glorifies itself to an intense degree rather than making legitimate fun of itself or being a good parody. It's dumbly crude, yet has no real moments where it calls itself out on it.

What you expect has nothing to do with how you rate anything. Many knew the game would be ****, especially after playing with **** in the game was revealed in a trailer.

Once again, a trailer presets reviews and ratings? So I guess terrible trailers should have the game recieve a 10/10 if it ended up being decent.

The game is not a lot of fun. It's boring as ****.

Hype is a dangerous thing. Can ruin a game.

I haven't played it yet, but after 15 years in the making, I think people were waiting for a lot more of it as a game.

What I'm trying to say is, maybe the game is not as bad as critics say it is to score like 3.0 to 5.0 range, but if it is 15 years in the making you just would have to make the game near perfect to be well received.

Look at the example of StarCraft II.

It should have been offered as a digital download for $19.99 or so. At that price it would be totally average and much of its shortcomings would be forgivable. At $60 though it is inexcusably bad and overpriced.

This game would have been perfect as a budget PSN/XBLA Title.

The fact is, that gearbox threw the game out as quickly as posible with little to no polish over what 3D Realms had originally done.

The game tries to play homage to itself but fails in almost every aspect,

The humour just isn't working anymore. Maybe it's an issue with me growing up since i Played Duke Nukem 3D on Pc, but after the nostalgia pased I just didn't find it funny anymore. Throwing crap like a chimp simply isn't funny to me. I am more than happy to switch off and just enjoy crude humour for the sake of it, and Duke has a tradition of being interactive with almost everything in the environment and being fun in the process. Bu the fact that after taking a leak, throwing s*** is the first thing you can do seems like they have taking the hilarity of the feces trailer and wasted it all in the first 5 minutes of the game.

Game graphics are never an issue for me really, but the fact it is running unreal 2.5 shows just how little effort was put into production.

Personally, I would take bulletstorm over this DNF anyday. I have been a fan of duke since the early 90's and this game is just an abomination.

Duke flinging s*** just feels like the perfect Gearbox/2k/3D Realms/duke Nukem Forever metaphor as far as I am concerned

Gameplay is dull, levels are linear small narrow corridor like crap, enemies are interestingly animated, but thats not enough. Weapons were pretty good, but i could only carry 2 of them! The game also showed absolute discust to women and the humor was something out of a perverts mouth. Gameplay was narrowed and downgraded and there was absolutely no fun of exploration. I remember Duke Nukem used to be a fast paced shooter where you constantly have to outmanouver your opponents, circle strafe and it had so many cool secrets.I barely used any circle strafe in campaign and my character got tired after about 5 sec on running! I regret buying it, should have spent my money on something more original and loyal to its fans, such as Killzone 3.

I haven't played it and despite how awesome it looks(imo anyway) it isn't worth $60. If i dropped $60 on this game it would probably be a bad choice.
