There are HD collections for the old Metal Gear games, the God of War games, the Prince of Persia games... and I know it says they're in "HD," but what exactly is the graphical difference from the original PS2 versions?

I guess improved textures mean it's less grainy looking?

Native resolution at 720p or 1080p, Improved framerates, 16:9 widescreen instead of 4:3 for a boob tube. That's really about it. Not all "HD remasters" are created equal either. The Sony ones have almost uniformly been terrific. However Ubi completely dropped the ball with Splinter Cell Collection, and I think I read Prince of Persia collection has some sound issues. If you are interested in the games, they are definitely worth looking into though. I hope they keep them coming as long as they can, I'm especially hoping for more Sony collections (Dark Cloud and Ratchet collections anyone!?). Knowing that the only alternative is probably just a straight ROM of the game dumped onto the PSN (i.e. with no frame-rate or resolution improvements)...

I don't know if they actually bump the textures, or if it's just the bump in resolution. But yes the remasters are alot less "grainy" looking because they are running at native 720p or 1080p. You can definitely tell they are PS2 games, but there is a significant difference with now "smooth" they look from just playing the PS2 games upscaled.

Also as I noted with the really good remasters (which are basically the Sony produced ones, and a few of the others), they are not only upping the resolution but making them run at higher framerates. God of War had all kinds of framerate issues on the original platform, but on the remasters they are running at silky smooth 60fps.

The *ONLY* negative I found with the GoW collection, was that most of the cutscenes were not touched in the improvements(there must have been a reason for this). So while the gamplay look great, some of the cutscenes looked terrible beause they were just untouched from the PS2 version...

It seems some games are done better than others for the HD collections. I know Prince of Persia: Warrior Within didn't even have the menus redone, so they're all stretched. The game itself looks good, but is just upscaled basically, as it's not a huge difference.

Now, the Ico/Shadow of the Colossus collection looks rather great. Sure, you can tell it's not a current gen game, but it sure does look nice with whatever they did to it.

Well, I guess that didn't actually answer you question, but it's some quick observation from what I've played of each.

I thought remasters also get 60fps too correct?

Maybe it's just my perception, but to me this only seemed to be an issue with GoW 1.
