What game is more original to you: Shadows of the Colossus or Assassin's Creed?

Just a question that came up in my head and I thought it'd be nice to see a different topic than:

Shadow of the colossus for sure. i have assassins creed but its soo repetive i havent even beatin yet....maybe ill come back to it after i get sick of CoD4 online.

oh and btw u should remove 2 of the options in the polls if you want people to take you seriously

SotC seemed to build on it's own ideas and was made beautifully and with no pretenses.

Assassin's Creed is a glorified actioner with a cool running/climbing mechanic surrounding a stock standard game experience and a pretty average story.

So in conclusion, SotC hands down.

I voted for Shadows of the Colossus as well just because when I was playing Assassin's Creed, it felt like they were inspired by a lot of good games.

I voted for Shadows of the Colossus as well just because when I was playing Assassin's Creed, it felt like they were inspired by a lot of good games.

Assassin's Creed is much more free in terms of where you can go, but there's nothing like climbing COLOSSI compared to buildings.

Other than that, you're basically asking me to choose between some of my favorite games

shadow of the colossus was one of the best games i've ever played and no doubt that its one of the most original games ever.

So i voted SotC.

PS: Assassins Creed is a very good game too!! Just not as original as SotC IMO.

Ico + Shadow of the Colossus are as original as you get.

The language is only beaten by that of Okami :p

Only problem with these games is that they didn't seem to get the popularity they deserved not to mention that Shadow of the Colossus pushed the PS2 to its graphical limits so perhaps the PS3 can run the next game without having the main character walk into walls every once in a while.

Man, am I the only one who gets pissed when hearing how AC was too repetitive and SotC wasn't??? That's just BS!! :evil:

After that rant, I'll expose my PoV:

SotC is a great game, I've always said it ever since I played it for the first time, but I've also was that the game was too damn easy, too damn short, too repetitive and HAS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO other than killing the Colossi (No, exploring "the beautiful landscape" is NOT a thing to do, sorry). The game has no replay value at all because once you know how to kill the Colossi, the whole difficulty goes down the toilet, because even on Hard mode the way you kill the Colossi is the exact same, not to mention that the stuff you unlock is as useless as a human appendix. On the story level, SotC was too simple but too precise to be just enough to get you interested 'til the end, and even though I could see something fishy was there no complains here.

AC is another great game, also an easy, short and repetitive game but at least it gave us SOMETHING ELSE TO DO other than just killing targets, even if doing that stuff wasn't worth it, at least we got that option and it's nice to have more options in life. AC also has beautiful landscapes and I think it's the first game I've played where a city actually feels like a city (I think this feeling even beats GTA). This game doesn't have a replay value at all, at least not at the moment, but once we get the other 2 parts of the trilogy, replay value will increase just a tad just for the sake of refreshing the memory on the story. Last but not least, the story was good bu I see why some people got lost during it, specially because you had to pay really close attention to the dialogues (hello, Ubisoft?? couldn't you throw some subs in there?? geez!!). Sadly, the story had one big issue that I hope they fix for the 2 sequels and most of us who played AC know what it is, even if you don't agree on it.

That being said, my pick wuold definitely be SotC just because it had a closure that gave me a sense of accomplishment whereas AC didn't... otherwise it would've been AC without an effort.

Assasins Creed for me...

I rented SoTC...Played for 2 hours...Beat a boss...The gamewas so boring I took it back the same day...

Didn't get bored with Assasins Creed so that wins IMO.

Ico is even more underrated than Shadows and most of the PS2 gamers NEVER played/heard of it.:(

AC actually lost points in originality because of the ending. I won't spoil it for anyone that hasn't played it, but I'm sure they did it thinking it would put a big twist (which I guess it was) and make the game more unique, but it's so...corny, it makes the game more cliche, in my opinion.

SotC is a great game and took a very unique approach. Other games before it had big boss battles, but no other game has ever been pretty much all about boss battles. The game is really short and the story takes a while to get interesting, but it ends up being amazing, because it just keeps getting better with each boss. That's also original, sadly, because so many games reach their pinnacle somewhere in the middle of the game and aren't as innovative, fun, dynamic, or whatever towards the end.
