I got it in late 2007 so I think it was Uncharted, R & C, Heavenly Sword and Warhawk that made me want one. And future stuff like MGS4, KZ 2, GOW 3, etc.
GTA IV hands down, it was more of a reliability thing being that the 360 I owned at the time kept on crashing the game. Unfornately since there has not been any DLC for the PS3 version, I might have to buy a 360 again.
A little off topic but true, the sheer discust with my other console drove me to buy a PS3, then discovered games like MLB The Show, MGS4, Yakuza Kenzan, Yakuza 3 and now I just cannot wait for Oct. 6th Demon's Souls.
Likewise TC, MGS4 was the main reason I bought a PS3. ofcourse it's not the only reason but I felt I should buy a PS3 with MGS4 since I bought the PS1&2 with Metal Gear titles as the 1st game.
killzone 2 and warhawk. mostly killzone 2 just because it looked so amazing i just had to have a ps3 and to play that game. and when it finally came out, i was complete. warhawk was my game man really the only good multiplayer game at the time besides resistance but the planes were the best and the combat was always engaging and always changing.
I bought mine at launch simply because I'm a huge fan of Sony's first-party developers. Everything Naughty Dog, Insomniac (who technically aren't first-party), Sony Santa Monica, Polyphony Digital, Studio Liverpool and Team ICO touch turns to gold. But the biggest games worth buying the system for are:

I havent got my ps3 yet :( but it has been orderd and payed for just gotta wait a few days and the game that has definatly pushed me to get the ps3 is killzone 2... even though i aint played it yet i loved playin number 1 and this looks sooo much better
Non. My dad wanted another Blu-Ray player and I did research of PS3 v. 360 :P. Not to flamebait or anything but I found out Killzone 2 and many other PS3 exclusives were coming in 2009 and 360 didn't really have any. Bought the PS3 December 22, 2009.
It wasn't really for any specific game I bought one, but for reliability. My first 360 got the RROD and the replacement Microsoft sent failed to read a disc within the first week. I said "screw this!" and got a PS3. Most of the games I like are multi-platform, but now I have confidence that my system will actually play them tomorrow.
I had to have a PS3 or 360 before GTAIV came out, I decided to go for the PS3 because of my familiarity with the PS2 and the existing franchises, like GoW.
I was gonna get PS3 someday because of FF13, MGS4, and GoW3 but the thing that really nailed my decision to buy it before the release of FF13 was Valkyria Chronicles

The reason why I bought a PS3 is because my PS2 broke so I figured I would just buy a PS3 to play my PS2 games on. The main game I am interested in is FF13. I know it's not a PS3 exclusive anymore.
