I never gave this much thought until recently when I decided I wanted to get a good game that had 2 or 4 player split screen to play with friends/guests when they come over to my house. But I was surprised that nearly every game I checked out did not have such a feature, it only had online play. What also was surprising is most sites don't even state if a game has the feature. I had to search forums to find my answers. So far the only good games that have split screen are Motorstorm Pacific Rift and Mod Nation Racers. Is there any other good ones?
Original Twisted Metal split screen. I spent more time looking at my buddies screen to see where he was to get the power-ups before he did. I remember hours and hours. That game was addicting. Good times, good times.
What happened to it? The internet. I could play with my buddy on half a screen...or I could play with him anywhere I want with each of us using a full screen. Makes perfect sense to me.
Gamers don't have friends or atleast that's what I get from the lack of split screen. That being said I hate split screen I bought two TVs and Two PS3s for a reason :P
I would pick Timesplitters 3 over any single FPS that comes out these days.. It was amazing and its a shame Timesplitter 4 will never happen because i'm sure it would have had splitscreen.

Definitely. I prefer Timesplitters 2, but yeah there just hasnt been much of anything like it since. Awesome game.
Gears of War 2 probably has the most fully featured split screen play this gen. Horde mode is good fun and the campaign isnt bad. In some of the multiplayer modes if I remember correctly you can play with or against the other player and choose the number of bots and their difficulty. Hardly any other game does that anymore. None that I know of anyway. I know it's Xbox only but really it's about all there is. Unreal Tournament 2 has quite a few modes I think but it's simply not as good as Gears.
Black Ops will have the zombie mode at least. Not sure if the training mode will be available for 2 players or not. I sure hope so.

Who said Timesplitters 4 will never happen? Free radical is now Crytek UK and last I heard Timesplitters 4 was a maybe, not a definite no. Timesplitters was the ultimate in split screen fun, wish there was more split screen around these days.

Wishful thinking at this point is just that.. The chances of it actually happening are between slim and none..
I completely agree with you, I have been wondering myself the same thing for while. Most of the popular racegames dont even have this feature anymore.
I realy have no clue why this is, I think alot of games these days would be alot better, or would atleast have a greater replay value if they would have offered splitscreen co-op aswell.
Split screen died with all FPS became online. I miss playing even just 2person split screen. This is the biggest reason why i have a Wii. There might not be tons of FPS, but atleast there are tons of Co-op games in many differnt genres.
