With so much going on, so many new gameplay elements, plot twists, new characters, vast amounts of questions to be answered and probably new questions, and new control systems and so on and so forth, MGS4 has a huge chance of ending up like Spiderman 3- where too much ended up being far too little- spiderman 3 tried doing so many things and jumble them all at once it just ended up falling apart.

this may be the only thing holding it back from game of the year.

It won't, and from reading the previews of the game, if you don't know IGN and Eurogamer had a new preview of the game and the story reveals a lot of the plot twist when you are going after Liquid from place to place.

And they said Kojima and his team outdone themeselves.

Spider-man 3 was a movie meaning they had to constrain it withing a two and a half hour time period.

Kojima's filling up that dual-layer Blu-ray with all sorts of delicious content. Don't worry. ;)

I can certainly see what you mean, and it could very well be a valid concern, but we'll just have to wait and see.

First of all, Spiderman 3 wasnt even highly anticipated or even close to being as big as any big hit title. So if anything, MGS4 wont pull a Spiderman 3. If it it sucked or flopped, it would still be better than any Spiderman game ever created. We're talking about Kojima here. And all the pass MGS games have been excellent, to say the least. MGS4 will be the best game this year.

Uh, dude...

I think he was comparing it to Spider-Man 3 the MOVIE, not the game. :)

Edit: At least, I hope that's what he was comparing it to. :?

As someone pointed out.. there's a difference between a 2.5 hour movie and a game of blu-ray proportions.

They want to fit something in, they will. Kojima will probably delay the game if he thinks there's something missing.

But let's pray he likes what he's done ^^

On a side note: Spiderman 3 IS entirely different from MGS4 and thus the comparison is not chosen all that well... I mean besides the difference between a movia and a game, you also have a different (aimed) audience, a different set of conditions etc.

Just be calm about it^^

has nothing to do with fitting things in- i dont care if the game lasts 50 hours- it can still become so convoluted and jumbled

I think people are missing the point that TC here is trying to make.

I honestly don't think he's concerned about there not being enough actual space on the Blu Ray disc. I think he's posing the question, "What if this game, which we all have high hopes for, just has so much stuff crammed into it that the gameplay experience itself gets lost in the mix?"

His comparison to Spider-Man 3 is valid; the movie had so many plots and subplots going on at the same time that the movie-watching experience itself was almost painful at times.

It's not a time or disc space constraint issue. It's not a "different audience" issue. It's a "is the gameplay experience going to suffer because of a potential overload of new features" issue.

I can't see Kojima releasing this game that he's worked on for so long without making sure everything was balanced and fleshed out as it should be. Kojima tells a good story. I'm not worried about anything getting lost or anything being sub-par. I'm sure the budget for this game was gigantic and Kojima has pretty much perfected it.

I totally hear what you're saying, but I still think this could be a valid concern.

After all, Sam Rami told some great stories through the first two Spider-Man movies, but once he crammed Venom, Sandman, New Goblin, and another love triangle into Spider-Man 3, it turned into a cinematic train wreck.

Every single preview for this game states that this is THE GAME of this gen for now at least. They even said that it will make Gears look bad visually. Kojima doesn't know what failing is he is a true designer and visionary in gaming. You can rest assured it will be the benchmark in story telling at the very least and the most memorable game for a while at the very least.

Well, I happened to love the Spiderman 3 movie very much. It was EPIC. and as for the score going down, I think IGN, and Eurogamer, who have both played the game all the way through, have a very high chance of giving it a 10.

Clearly you haven't played a lot of metal gear to know it won't be. Spiderman 3 was written and coded by a bunch of damn clownshoes that's why it sucked, we're talking Konami with Kojima here.

dude- i bought a copy of metal gear when i was a little kid dude. i have been playing it since the beginning. im a huge fan- and my goddamn icon is snakes face from metal gear 2 solid snake. people are so fast to judge and be defensive over things.

i thought it was a good point worth noting- i am sure kojima has it all worked out, but theres always going to be that slight worry. i mean, every trailer totally changes everything like he keeps totally blowin our minds. but eventually its like, damn- either this game is going to be incredibly longer than i expected or perhaps it becomes too congested. the gameplay is key for me- but i love the story too, i just hope he balances it well. theres sooooo much story to tell on top of making sure the game is both new, faithful to metal gear spirit, and also very unique and really creates memorable gaming experiences.

Why do you say that? It seems like story won't be a problem with all of those MGS flashbacks they're adding. The gameplay looks tight, based on MGO. I don't think your concern is very valid.

see metal gear can't possibly be as bad as spiderman 3 .. I mean for starters it doesn't star Toby Maguire and secondly the prequals to MGS4 were actually good.
