300 will look nice, but there is a lot of intentional grain added. people will be complaining about it for sure.

Yeah, it's a nature show on Discovery. But the picture is so amazing it's like you are there....It's the only nature show I watch. There are 3 Blue Rays out...one is on the Ocean, another on the Artic, or something, and the other is the jungle I think.

Um I bought a box set that came with 4 disks and I have never heard about individual disks out. I think it is only a set and it's probably cheapest on amazon.

yeah it's only a box set. it's probably the best nature documentary ever made. some really rare, interesting footage (the caves episode is pretty insane). video quality is a little hit or miss though. some of it looks incredible, but some of it looks kinda poor. there are a couple of moments that have a really, really low bitrate resulting in some crap image artifacts, which is a problem with transfer. there are also some moments that are shot on sd cameras, and you can tell. that said, the content is generally so compelling i'd recommend at least a rent (netflix has it on blu-ray), or try and catch an episode on tv; if you like it buy it.[QUOTE="pimperjones"]I think some of Planet Earth was shot on ulra wide 70mm film stock thats why the image quality in HD is much better than anything else.longhorn7you would be correct there, and damn does it look beauitiful lol
I think it was shot with HD Video cameras, not 70mm or any film, unless there are a few areas where they couldn't get their HD cameras to or something.
The video also varies. Once shot will be crystal clear, another might show noticeable compression or even SD now and then, and a lot of detail is lost during night shots with HD cameras. It's forgivable as it;s not like the places they show are easy to get to.
Here's a review:

I printed out Target's website and had Best Buy pricematch it to $66.95 (keep in mind if they call Target they won't have it, Target online is more like part of Amazon)
