After you reach Level 55, you can go into Prestige Mode if you want, basically you'll start back at Level 1 and loose all your challenges and weapons but get a different icon next to your rank, you can do this 9 more times after that, I think it's pretty much just for bragging rights.
Personally I find it usless and since you don't get anything besides prettier icons, I can't find a reason why anybody would do it other than to brag or something.

Well I only play private matches with friends now anyways, I haven't played COD4 online in over two months.
So if you go in Prestige, then you gotta earn all the guns all over again? doesn't that suck!Coolboy420x
Well I'm on prestige 9 and I started all over again 9 times. Never got boring for me. But I'm planning to stop playing anymore COD4 after I reach 10th prestige, level 55.
Actually I agree with you you if thats "noobish" then so be itAfter you reach Level 55, you can go into Prestige Mode if you want, basically you'll start back at Level 1 and loose all your challenges and weapons but get a different icon next to your rank, you can do this 9 more times after that, I think it's pretty much just for bragging rights.

Prestige mode justs gives you something to do. It doesn't mean you're good. It just means you play the game alot. Look at me. I'm 10th prestige and have like 6000 more deaths than kills. I respect people that stay at 55. I don't think it's noobish. Plus it's funny when a level 55 ends up owning a 10 prestige person.

Agree if you load up on weapons just stay that way you will have a better chance of survival.

 ! thinking prestige means anything more than that you've spent alot of time with the game is the ultimate n00b mistake..There are different ways of looking at it. Some like to do it just to see how many times they can start over as a challenge. I don't think it's so much bragging rights because most people can care less about rank. It's about winning. You can be a Prestige number 6 at rank 40 and get Owned by a Private at rank 2.
Again, I see it as just another challenge for some. Some people like me take the challenge from a different approach. I rather reach Level 55 and try to unlock all the achievements and get all Gold Weapons. Something that also takes allot of time.
The difference I think in both of these challenges for yourself is that Prestige forces you to start playing with the simpler weapons again and you can learn how to play well against better weapons. This will make you a better player with time.
Unlocking all the achievements and getting all Gold Weapons will force you to focus on each weapon and challenge in order to achieve. This will also make you a better player with time.
So it's really two ways to keep the game challenging for yourself. You must decide which you would prefer. I can care less about rank so I go for the Gold Weapons. :-) Either option is fun no matter how you look at it.
thats a good way of looking at it, i stopped at prestige 2 to go for the golden weapons, i've got the AK-47, Mini Uzi, and Dragonuv all gold. There are different ways of looking at it. how do you get gold weapons? is it a challenge at a later stage, like get 1000 kills with that weapon or something?crewboi
theres only 1 gold weapon each class...
and to get them, for example the golden AK-47 u have to get 150 headshots and 150 kills with every assault weapon...
u can see whats needed when u choose the color of ur weapon...at the botton u can see the gold color and whats needed to get it...
