The PSP is terrible for online play, essentially because any game that's well-populated has a large sub-population of CFW users who cheat with abandon. Don't buy one with the idea of playing online. It's a wonderful system for single-player, but online will break your heart.

Ad-Hoc is playing another PSP system player-to-player that's close enough, like, in the same room. It's a wireless connection which doesn't travel across the internet, only the room. PS3s & PSPscan download an add-on (which you need both consoles to perform) which makes the ad-hoc connection into a Net connection so that games like "Monster Hunter Freedom Unite" can be played online instead of ad-hoc only, as the game was intended. This only works with certain titles. It's basically using the PS3 to play PSP titles over the internet.

There's a few exceptions-such as Resistance Retribution-that don't have very many hackers. I've never met any hackers yet on Resistance.

I still play Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow online and I don't run into to many hackers. It isn't very impressive, but it's not as bad as you're making it out to be.

Socom FTB3 is hacker free at the moment (fingers crossed), but only time will tell how this new anti piracy/hacking system holds up.

That said, not all games are ruined by hackers, only the biggest, most populated ones..

... so what Cali means is, "any game worth playing online - A title which is actually played by others - has cheaters". So if you want to play "Field Commander" or "Clubhouse Games" online, you're golden. And do a search, but I've seen plenty of posts decrying the cheaters on "Resistance Retribution". Anyone who says 'Oh It's Not That Bad' is an optomist (commendable, certainly, yet incorrect). There's absolutly nothing wrong with standing in a room full of horse poop and continuing to believe there's got to be a pony in there somewhere, but eventually you need to conceed that the room still stinks to high heaven even if you find a saddle and bridle hanging on the wall.

Look, I'm not bashing here, I'm just stating a fact.

I've been playing Logan's Shadow for the last week and I've only ran into about 3 hackers. I really think that your making it worse than it really is.

The Syphon Filter games don't really have any hackers anymore, Syphon Filter Combat Ops is hacker free. Idk about Resistance, but I've heard good things. Socom FTB1&2 are hacker infested. Socom FTB3 is hacker free. The games I just mentioned are the most populated. The Syphon Filter games have about 100 people online at any time. Resistance has about 300. Socom FTB3 has about 500-600 on competeitive and about 100 on Co-Op at peak times. Online is decent. You don't pay for it, and the games don't lag at all. I have an Xbox 360 and a PS3 and there are times I will pick up my PSP and go online for days straight without touching my consoles.

Actually thats not what I mean. Who says Field Commander isn't worth playing? It's a great online experience. As is Motorstorm, Wipeout Pulse, Warhammer 40K SC, Socom TS, NHL 07 and a few other, fairly off the charts, small community games. Though I suppose I see how the "small community" part could turn some away. Kids do like the new and flashy these days...

That said, it's even possible to get lost within the BIGGEST online games and experience only the occasional A-hole hacker by the sheer nature of how many people your playing with. During FTB2's hayday there were TONS of hackers, but there were also thousands of legit players, so it was possible to go a few matches at a time without having to vote one out or change games. (Or get booted  ) Same way with Resistance and Syphon Filter, but to a lesser extent now; as theres less people playing at any given time. Sure there there, and they'll ruin your game for pathetic kicks, but it's not as bad as some make it out to be.

Theres still fun to be had online. So saying every single online game is 100% ruined by hackers, is just as untrue as saying there are games that you won't even notice them.

With the exception of FTB3, it's a rampant problem, but don't let it turn you off from online gaming completely..

I have "Field Commander" and I love the game... my point is that trying to get an online match successfully these days is a rarity. "WarHammer 40K" too. It's not that the games are bad, it's that the popularity has made online gaming... "sparse". If you want to be able to play just about any time, you need to adopt one of the more popular titles like FTB or MoH (if you're a shooter fan) to get the most busy communities. The MoH games are loaded with cheats. I take it as nothing but a good sign that FTB3 seems to be holding water for the moment... please don't get me wrong here. I am not attacking anything. I've been praying that they would find a way to stop the BS so that we CAN enjoy that side of a game without the aggrevation. Perhaps happier days have finally arrived...

Agreed?

:D

Not on the newest title, according to trusted sources here on the forums. FTB2, absolutely. But it seems like Slant 6 might have come up with a winning strategy for combatting online cheats. T'would be sweet.

QFT Medal Of Honor has hackers but I've never run into a hacker on Syphon Filter or Resistance. Plus if you have friends you can do a private match so yeah :P The online experience is pretty much the same as any console like ps3 or 360. Just launch game, make sure wifi switch is on and then play online. Actually what's amazing is MOH has 32 players per server :P

PSP multiplayer is fun. Problem is the CFW hackers but i find them seldomly now in older games Retribution, Syphon filter, MOH 1 FTB 3 is Hack free i find then in newer more popular games FTB 2 MOH 2 etc. ad hoc is covered above
