What is the best MGS? What is the WORST?

I'm playing MGS 1 for the first time and it is pretty damn addictive, I just beat the Ninja dude, I died like 10 times, finally beat him with an inch of health left and I thought it was over so I just anticipated a cutscene and his blue aura KILLED ME :evil:! But I finally beat him and the story is really good, at first I was kinda anxious during the dialogue and cutscenes but now I'm really enjoying them.

Im gonna complete the series for sure.

So what is the best MGS (iyo) and the worst MGS? (iyo)

Is there a generally agreed upon worst and best? (for example the majority would probably agree LoZ OoT was the best and Awakening the worst)

ALSO is MGS portable ops a chronological part of the series? Some people argue it is but if it was wouldnt THAT title be considered MGS 4?

My favorite, is probably the original. I own 3 different versions of it, and have beaten it so many times, but I still love it.

My least favorite though? Thats a toughie. Metal gear solid 3 had some dang memorable scenes, but mgs2 had the better gameplay for me. But if I seriously would have to set here and pick, I'd have to say mgs2. While I've beaten it so many times more than probably any other, it just didn't really have any standout scenes to me. They were all great, but not superb. That end boss fight in mgs3 with the music in the background, was very memorable. Then the ending theme is 2nd only to the first game.

MGS2 is by far my favorite. I thought it did plenty to improve the gameplay from MGS1. It brought a new character, who unlike many, I enjoyed because I thought he had some of the best character development in the entire series. It brought the whole "everything is interactive" thing to the PS2 and it did that great. Am I forgetting something? Oh yeah. The story is freaking AMAZING! Hands down the best storyline in any video game. It's story actually borders a great novel or movie. So many twists, sub-plots, philosophy, deepness.

MGS3 is the worst for me. I was never rally addicted to it like I was to MGS2. The story was definatley lacking when compared to MGS2 or even MGS1. The story didn't even become good until about 8 hours in. The characters other than The Boss were all meh. Nothing really happened to them. And unless you played Subsitance, the CQC system wasn't enough of an improvement from previous games. But I really did enjoy the camera system in Subsitance. And the whole 30fps kind of annoyed me too.

MGS2 was good but had the weakest story IMO.

MGS3: Subsistance

it was the BEST in terms of the online mode. but it got cancelled off.

so i would have to say MGS1. because it is so innovative, to this day i dont think..anymore games can completely drag you into a game like that, and the characters. MEMORABLE. i mean to this day i still remember Praying Mantas and The Raven. but MGS2 was amazing in the respect that it brought in alot of politics and philosophy. and MGS3 was important that it broke away from the industrial feel of the first two, and placed you in a jungle enviorment. and the characters were so amazing also in that game, deff. gonna be remembering how much i dreaded facing off with The End. that was truely an iconic Sniper battle. a deff. highlight of the game. so yeah, they are all great.

now if you include the AC!D series, the first AC!D was good. but the second wasnt up to par. maybe it was the change in coloring, it just looked to toonish.

so AC!D 2. was the worst in the series. but it doesnt even fall in the MGS time line so. it doesnt count. =]

I swear, if the nezt one isnt better than MGO, I will say MGS4 is a failure.

all of the console MGS were great. i own all three original ones and i might get the "Essential collection" for kicks. i would say that the only mgs i didnt really get into really was the spinoffs like Ac!d and PO because i never actually liked the whole card and recruiting thing. sure it was something new but didnt sell for me.

There is no such thing as a "worst" MGS. They're all just too good. Each one has some strengths or weaknesses over the other, so they are basically all equal to each other, except for the story. I think that you'll probably think MGS2 will be the best, because once you play that one, MGS will just seem so outdated. MGS2 is a huge jump from MGS, and it doesn't have some of the annoying gameplay elements from MGS3. So for me, I guess MGS2 is the overall better one.

It goes like this in terms of time: MGS3>MGSPO>MG>MG2>MGS>MGS2>MGS4

PO is part of the story, plus they added a new gameplay mechanic not seen in other MGSs that make PO superior than MGS2 at least. Seriously, Portable Ops surprised the hell out of me. In case you were wondering, Gamespot gave Portable Ops, the psp game of the year(2006). It's an awesome game! And you will find out alot of things during and in the end of the game concerning the storyline! Go get it if you have the PSP.
