replay value
challenges to explore etc
....at least that's what they mean to me.
I strive for a 100% completion of every game I own...whether it has trophies or not. I feel like my $65 is justified that way...heck, even when I was paying $40 last gen, I still went for 100% completion. I'm sure there are a lot of gamers out there like me. The only difference between previous gens and this gen is that Sony have made it possible to document your accomplishments.
While trophies are a fun addition to the gaming world..I have to admit that there are those people who take it to the extreme....
these people include, but are not limited to
- braggers
- people who destroy their social/work life to sit down and hunt these things all day
- people who claim they're busy in real life, but the next time they log in, you can tell they've been gaming for days on end because their platinum count went up by six or seven lol
- People who buy extremely crappy games because they are an easy way to raise their level count. etc, etc, etc.
Trophies are what you make them. They're fun....but when taken to the extreme, they create a group of people who are willing to lie, cheat, and lazy around doing nothing but hunting trophies.
There's a difference between recreational drinking and overindulging....that's how I feel about trophies. You have your average people who take a sip now and then...and then you have the village drunk lol
