lol what is any hard drive for ,, it can be used to save stuff store your music you put in via cd ,, downloaded themes your family portraits etc,. like a computer in fact you can instal another os on it,, i dont know how bc i tried windows 98 and it wouldnt load so maybe only lenux will work
Just think of a hard drive like a big memory card. You save stuff, you can put music on it, videos, photos, and you can download full PS3 games (that are only in the PSN store, which is like one PS3 game) and PS1 games.
movies, music, linux files (and the linux os itself), save games, internal ps1/ps2 memory cards, ps eye pictures, and all sorts of fun stuff from the ps store.
Also, NO you can't fully install the games you buy on disc. some games have an option to install additional files to make load times shorter, and stuff like that. And some games are requiered to install something. But you won't be able to install the game 100% unless you bought the game on the PS Store. So you'll have to use the disc for Blu-ray games
The PS3 hard drive does the obvious for a console hard drive, including game saves, demos, PSN game downloads, music, videos, photos, etc. It also does stuff you don't see on other consoles, like allowing you to install games on to the hdd (you still need the media to play), buffering data to speed up loads, installing Linux so you can use your console as a computer.
