It seems only the PS3 launch systems do it. And even then it is very rare.

It is avalibe on all PS3 console, but it barely occurs the only bugs the PS3 has are freezing up(only a sign of YLOD if it happens really often), Blu-Ray Laser breaks only happens on the 40 gb PS3 and the YLOD all of these happen somtimes but like any console there are that break. One suggestion if you do buy the PS3 don't buy used they could have opened it up like an system never buy used unless it is unbreakable. lol :P

I wouldn't worry to much of the YLOD more of the Blu-ray drive breaking. Happens more often than the so called YLOD. And the yellow light usually means that you overheated the system so to prevent it just keep the system cool.

YLOD's are easy to fix. My 60gb launch model Ive had since march 07 YLOD'ed on me around 2 months ago. I found a very easy guide on youtube on how to fix it.. So IF it ever happens, dont pay sony $150 to fix it, just do it yourself. All you need is a screwdriver set, a heat gun to re-flow the flux under the gpu/cpu, and heatsink grease. O yea, and a good memory to remember where all of the screws went when you put it back together =).

like anything in the world, it can break. doesnt means it will happen everyday. I have 80gb ps3, bought on january this year, and sometimes I use it for more than 13 hours, no problem so far, doesnt overheat so easily. is like that BS rumor of the PS2 slim "if you play for more than 5 hours, it explodes! so you MUST buy a FAN, and this is your lucky day, im carrying one in my pocket! just give me 30$$$$ and it will be yours!!" bs, my cousin bought his PS2 slim, didnt had the so.called "fan" and he played for 2 days straight, that was like 1 year ago, and it's still on great condition

I have heard it is more prevalent in the launch 60gb models, some sort of inferior soldering process. I am actually on my third 60gb PS3.
