Wi-Fi stands for 'Wireless Fidelity," which is a fancy way to say wireless internet.

Hey, lay off. No, centain places will have wifi hotspots that you can use, for example, a ps3. These hotspots are usually in coffee shops and hotels. You can also use wifi in your house. Lets say that your ps3 is in your bedroom and the wireless router (You need that and an internet connection to use wifi) is in your parent's. Instead of feedind a wire all the way to your room, you can use wifi, without any wires. Cool eh? Just go to a place like Best Buy and ask a clerk there. They can probably tell you more about it.

WiFi aka 802.11 is a standard for local networking without wires. It has nothing to do with the internet at all. If your router is connected to the internet all of the machines connected to it locally will be able to use the internet, but just having a wireless connection on your PS3 doesn't mean you have access to the internet without paying for it. Wireless Internet is available to you if you subscribe to either a 3G or Edge provider. This will not work with your PS3 unless you connect your wireless internet modem to your 802.11 wireless router. Wireless 802.11 internet may be available to you if you live near a hotspot, but I'm doubting you live in a Starbucks!

WiFi does not mean wireless internet. It is a wireless connection to a network. The network is not necessary connected to the internet. On the PS3, WiFi would mainly be used to connect to a wireless router which is then connected to a cable or DSL modem. You can also use the WiFi connection on the PS3 to access media like photos, music and video on a PC.

Ps3 with Wi-Fi

The Ps3 has a wireless data receiver built in. If you have a wireless network set up at your house via a wireless router(sender), you can connect the ps3 to the internet, without having to connect and wires

My house has had a router set up since I can remember. The router is in the office connected to the cable modem. Have computers in the bed rooms with external Hubs(receivers). My laptop has it built in also, and the ps3, makes it effortless to connect to the internet, no set up required
