Metal Gear Solid 2 has the best video game opening ever:

Also...it has the best game intro (when you start the game without actually playing anything) ever:

Killzone 2 :)
Though they sweep over our lands like the sands of winter, never again will we bow before them, never again enjour their oppression, never again enjour their tyranny. We still strike, without warning and without mercy, fighting as one hand, one heart, one soul. We will shatter their dreams and haunt their nightmares, drenching our ancestors grave with their blood, and as our last breath tears at their lungs, as we rise again from the ruins of our cities...
...they will know, Helghan belongs to the Helghast.
A few of my favorites have already been said (MGS4, BioShock) I'd be lying if I didn't say Bayonetta has one of the greatest openings ever, in terms of shear awesomeness and ridiculousness.

[QUOTE="Laser_Hunter"]War....has changed. :PPoisoN_Facecam0I'm no Hero, I'm just an old killer hired to do some wetwork...
"I'm no hero. Never was. Never will be"
Chrono cross had an amazing opening just because of the fantastic music.
However I think the best opening in a video game EVER. If you take into account the time it was made and hold that against some of the newer ones like mgs4. I would have to say the best opening in a video game ever. The most jaw dropping holy crap this is freaking amazing opening to a game.
I think would have to be legend of dragoon.
That game had an opening fmv so damn good it holds up today against some other ps3 openings. Back in like 1996 or some crazy time around then.
If we're not talking strictly PS3 games, then Prey had an awesome intro.
I haven't really seen an intro on a PS3 game yet that has made me say: "Wow.."
Except maybe the guy getting his ass spanked on the freighter at the beginning of GTAIV....but that was more like: "WTF?"
Killzone 2 :)

I was going to say this. That speech is so epic and gets you pumped up (despite that you're actually fighting them as opposed to working with them).
And MGS3.
