I need a variety. I'll play an action/adventure game, a hack 'n' slash RPG type game, then some racing games, and maybe a shooter once in a great while.
Action adventure, mostly because that genre has so many possibilities and subgenres along with it. More specifically, I love hack and slash, and even more specifically, Ninja Gaiden.
Apparently I am in the minority by picking fighting games lol. I like all types of games as long as they are fun. But to me, a game like any of the Mortal Kombats or even WWE games (closer to a fighting game than a sport sim imo) are games I can play by myself, or with friends, for half an hour or longer and still get gratification out of with mega replay value. Sometimes I hate when people complain about games "only" being 10+ hours or "too short". I don't have the time in my life always to put into long games, so there are things I miss out on simpy because I can't invest the time in them. So somethng that brings me back to the days or arcade style gameplay, turn it on, have a blast for a short length of time if that's all you have, is appealing to me. Too many games imo I get into and yes, they are great, but if I know I don't have at least an hour or two, I won't bother playing them at the time.
To limit yourself to one game type as a favorite is foolish. I like to keep my collection diverse so I can play whatever I feel like playing.... I have sports, action/ Adventure, RPG, Racing, FPS games in my collection and I play them quite often... but if I must say, MW2 is in my system most of the time... but even that gets boring and I switch over to UC2 for it's epic campaign.....
RPG, particularly large open world RPGs which gives you tons of choice and lots of places to explore and find. I love going to some remote part of a game world and finding the devs have put something interesting there - you feel a bit rewarded for going exploring.
