I just turned on my PS3 for the second time today. It worked fine earlier today, but now it said my data was corrupted, but it "restored" my user files. I had to re-input the date, connections and internet. But all my saves and trophies were there. I managed to recover my PSN account. But why would it do this randomly to me? I have the original fat 60gb, upgraded to a 500gb. Has this happened to anybody else? IS it a warning that it will crash soon? Any help is appreciated!

press the PS button, quit game, take out the disc, PS button again, then turn off the system.

Like the above poster stated, if something happened during shutdown it could affect your data. It could be a sign, but I wouldn't worry too much unless it happens again. Back up your saves periodically, and sync you trophies often so if it does crash, your files can be easily restored.

Best of luck.

mmm, seems like the system is having a problem shutting down the HDD. maybe after you quite the game go to the turn off system option in the xmb menu and see what that does.

alright, thanks. I back-up my data every so often because last summer I had a harddrive go corrupt.

Try pressing the PS button and just shutting down the system. I never take out my disc and it never gives me trouble. But yeah Back up your data. Its awesome that Sony lets you do that eh?

You can either just copy each save file onto a flashdrive, or under one of the settings options you can do a system backup which copies everything and you need a portable hard drive.

Oh, neat. So you think maybe, once a month is smart? Or is that TOO often?

Depends how often you play games.. if you play a ton of them within a month maybe, but if you hardly play like play 2 hrs a week or something like that then you probably won't need to as much. Again, depends how often you play & whether or not you 'feel' you need to update your backups.

I've never actually done a complete System backup, but usually just back up my game save daily to my external Hard drive. How long will a system backup usually take?

I'm just paranoid because if there's one thing I never want to happen, it's losing all my save files and/or all the DLC that I've paid for over time. Hmm, you think maybe I should also backup my PSP files, too? Hahahaha.

Its not that big a deal. When my first hard drive died, I lost most of my saves. But for dlc, you just goto the ps store and view purchases (top right corner) and then you can go through the list and re-downlaod everything. I guess for savesI wasn't too worried because I most;y p;lay sports games. The only real "story progression" games so to speak were Burnout, Midnightclub and Fallout for me.

You can either copy your data onto a external drive or a thumbdrive (with all that data, exteral is the way to go ;)).
