I prefer artistic. IMO, video games should look like a video game, not real.

Honestly, some PS2 games have better graphics than PS3 games like Okami, Dark Cloud 2, and Rogue Galaxy.

I can't wait for Valkyria Chronicles and Afro Samurai.

NOTE:Don't say something about gameplay. No off topics please. :D

Artistic > Realistic, although I don't agree with your opinion.

As long as their done well I don't care much, I think it depends on the game.

But if had to choose only one I choose realistic. Specially for FPS :)

I don't honestly have a preference. I enjoy the look of various games, from Okami, to Uncharted, to BioShock, to Crysis. All of those games have different art styles, but I love each of those game's styles.

I suppose if I was forced to pick I would pick realistic, but that's probably based heavily on my mood right now (just got done with a Crysis marathon:P).

Sorry to give such a boring answer, but I could go either way based on my mood, the way the artistic game looked, and the game itself, of course.

Its hard to say as different type of games require different types of graphics. Calf of Duty 4 wouldn't have worked as a cell shaded artistic game. When done well Artistic graphics can be alot of fun but otherwise I prefer a realistic image.

I hate those who wouldn't play a games that doesn't have a realistic graphics. Just because it's already PS3/360 doesn't mean that all games should look realistic. We need cartoony or cel-shaded graphics once in a while.

So you won't play Afro Samurai too? The game looks awesome!

not really i was trying to go back and play FFX the other day and couldnt, i can go back and play like mario because of the cartoony graphics... but i can play bad graphics if there is no story, like marble madness and such... but i cant get into a game if it has bad visuals so sadly i cant go back and play mgs even though it was a great game.

I wouldn't play any game that has no good story except puzzle and sports games . Art style is very important, but they should be in mood of the gameplay. For example, mirror's edge looks stunning, has a perfect realistic and artistic blend. The upcoming prince of persia looks a lot better in the new art direction than the previous versions.

GT5 looks awesome, and if it's less realistic, it would lose half of its appeal.

Depends on the game. Normally artistic is awesome if well done (like PoP) but realistic is good sometimes. I like realistic graphics for FPS and certain 3rd person shooters.

But good artistic graphics are awesome

I don't aggree with the comparison either but I too prefer Artistic looking games.

Realistic look really turns sour when they try to make humans look real. They might get it down in another generation or two but now people in games only look about as realistic as an Epcot center automatron.

I guess it really comes down to the context of the game for me. I like both artistic and realistic. Although they are both artistic, in the sense that they are both created from a person's vision. (And yes i do know what you mean from your question TC)

Take some thing like the final fantasy 12 or even X or X-2. Sure they are set in a fantasy world. But they are trying to make it look as realistic as possible, or the worlds in Star Wars.

Or vice versa, The view of the Las vegas strip from you chopper in Rainbow Six Vegas. It's meant to be a realistic, but it's still a person's interpretation of the Vegas Strip. I guess ultimately I find the beauty in both types. But also being an visual artist myself I guess I'm a little biased. At least in terms of seeing other people's work.

It all depends on the type of game, for example, Call of Duty 4, Far Cry 2 all should definitely look as realitic as possible. But other games such as fantasy, action/adventure, RPG can all very well look amazing with artistic design, such as Okami. Personally, I like both since it really depends on the game.

Its a mix, the art style has to fit the game. For example I don't think the PoP art style would have worked for say Assassins Creed, and a realistic style would have not worked as well as the cel shaded style for a game like No More Heroes.

It really depends on the game. I wouldn't expect things to look to realistic on R&C but would expect some realism in a war title or on some fps.

FOR ME, ITS PRETTY SIMPLE. I THINK GRAPHICS WISE IT SHOULD FIT THE MOOD THE GAME IS TRYING 2 SET.....

I MEAN, I DONT THINK I COULD GET SCARED AND/OR JUMPY PLAYING A RESIDENT EVIL IF THE ZOMBIES WERE EITHER COLORFUL OR WERENT PROPORTIONED RIGHT (BIG HEAD, SMALL BODY)

IT WOULD TURN OUT 2 BE MORE OF A FUNNY GAME THAN ANYTHING ELSE IMO

SO I PREFERE BOTH

I think the graphics should fit the game, be consistant, and be well rendered. As long as the fit those criteria the only thing I have to worry about id gameplay.

Personally, realistic. I haven't played enough artistic style games. And Prince of Persia alone can't change that.

I like realistic graphics and all, but I think it influences the designers to make the gameplay more realistic, which can be very limiting. Take a look at a game like Okami... some of the best graphics on PS2 IMO. Or I really liked Red Dead Revolver, though that was more art direction than graphics.

So I guess artistic, but I'm just as impressed by realistic graphics as the rest of you, y'know?
