1.  I can now download all my digital photos on to my PS3

Hmmm...lets see....yep thats about it!  Oh wait I can listen to those craptastic music tracks that came with Windows XP (Like Humans Do.....must be a Microsoft thing)

The only way I have been able to get a damn NAPSTER track to play on my PS3 at all is if I burn it directly from Napster to a CD and then put it in my PS3.  Media Server loves to throw that UNSUPPORTED DATA crap around even though all the files are WMA (which the PS3 can play).  I just dont get it.  There has to be a way to get this to work!

Also on the Media Player Tools screen, under Sharing the only thing it ever has shown is Unknown Device.  It never shows up as PS3 or my machines ID number.  Just unknown.

I should get my head examined for getting exited about this new thing, I mean a PS3 and a Microsoft OS working and playing well together, too much to ask for.

I found that I can't copy photos, videos or music while something is being used, like playing a music file, running a video file or displaying a photo. Not sure but you should consider that. I can copy wma, mp3 and other types of multimedia to my PS3 just fine.

Edit: DIVX is not supported yet and some music files, cannot be played on the PS3, not even after being copied to the HD. Don't know the reason.

I do that then it tells me the permission stuff is not there.  I tried that (only way I can change Napster files is to type .mps at the end of the file name) and then even Media Player on the PC would not play them.  Only would play the original.  And dont even get my started on video, NONE of my videos I have on here will work.  I even DLd a game play video off of PSN onto my PC and then tried to stream it...you guessed it, unsupported data.

Guess when I saw this update I was thinking "WOW! I can look at all the stuff on my HD from my PS3 as if I am on the PC".  Right.....excuse me while I get my head examined :)

Most movies you get online are Mpeg II or III formats.  In order to play videos on your PS3 they must be Mpeg 4.  For music, they should be able to transfer already to your PS3.  Never had problems with mine.  Though, I use a Jump drive and not a server.  Don't know.  But, for pictures, they should also work as soon as you take them.  As long as they're digital I mean :).

Do you have a Napter subscriptions? The Ps3 does not play DRM music. Maybe it comes in the next couple updates.

the gameplay video you downloaded was probably in WMV and the Ps3 cannot play WMV. Or it could have been quicktime and i thought that format worked.

Photos work fine, pretty much everything else does not.  I had ONE WMA file that I had downloaded off some site (It was the Discovery abort back in 1984) and it worked fine, only WMA file that would show up.

Not sure how to convert the music to something the PS3 will like more, when I hit SAVE AS on the Windows Media Player it only gives me the ALL FILES in the drop box.

Napster tracks are also WMA but they use Microsoft DRM and the PS3 would not be able to play them.

I find it funny that the PS3 has the ACTIVATE WMA PLAYBACK thing on the system menu when it cant play those....hmmm. (examines head again for alien surgery scars)  This whole Media Server thing is probably just some sort of clandestine attempt by MS to infect PS3

Here is what is REALLY funny.  I went to Napster....I looked at my purchased songs list and I picked one.  I then told it to BURN it to a CD.  I then took the CD put it in the PS3 and it played fine.  hmmmm.  So it seems it can play Nap songs, when it feels like it.

Burning the Napster tracks to a Cd is the only solution and you can also rip them to Mp3 then they will work. Like I said before the purchased tracks still have DRM and the Ps3 cannot play them.

XVID videos can be transcoded and streamed to a ps3 using Nero Media Home.  I'm not sure if DRM music files will work but I've tried it for xvid and it's great.

Well, I got access to gigs of music spread over my computer and my gf's. Too bad we have to sit before the XMB while it plays, or else it would be awesome.
