1. PlayStation Brand- I have been a PlayStation user ever since the launch day of the original Sony PlayStation. The consoles have never broken down on me and have always had a fantastic library of games to choose from. I also really like the controller and in general, really like SONY products.
2. Exclusives- I am a HUGE fan of the following franchises: Metal Gear Solid, God of War, Final Fantasy, Ratchet and Clank, and Tekken. All of them happen to be PlayStation exclusives.
3. Blu-Ray- I didn't buy the system to use as a Blu-Ray player, but it certainly weighed in my decision because I had recently bought an HDTV prior to buying a PS3. I love how Blockbuster rents Blu-Ray movies. I will definitely begin to buy more Blu-Ray movies when the average price drops down to about $20 per movie. That's when I think the format will really begin to take the mantle from DVD.
4. Backward Compatibility- IF I had kept all of my PS One games from back in the day, I would have a pretty big collection right now. Even then, I have about 35 PlayStation 1,2, and 3 games. I like being able to play all of them on ONE console. I like being able to upconvert older games to higher resolutions so that they look right on my HDTV. I would NEVER consider buying a 40 GB PS3...
5. Built-in Wi-Fi and Free Online- I had an Xbox 360 and used Xbox Live for well over a year. Am I impressed with the service? Absolutely! Would I pay for it? Sure...that is until I played Warhawk for the first time. 32 player online with NO LAG and massive battles? I'm sold. The thought of having to pay another $99 for a wireless hub was SUCH A TURN OFF for me. Although PSN is not quite up to par with Xbox Live, I think it does its job well enough to keep me happy. The online features continue to be refined and expanded; I am confident that HOME will provide for an excellent online experience.
6. Diversity in Library- The PlayStation library has the most diverse set of games. What do I mean? You will never see games like Shadow of the Collosus, ICO, and Okami on rival consoles. Franchises like Guitar Hero and Grand Theft Auto started off on the PlayStation. Xbox has mostly FPS. Only recently are they beginning to add some quality action/adventure and RPG games to their library.
7. Easy and Cheap Expandability- Microsoft wants to charge $179 for a 120 GB HDD...Is that supposed to be a joke? For $179 I should get at LEAST a 160 GB HDD AND an external casing for the 60 GB HDD that came with my PS3. I can use the Bluetooth headset from my phone with my PS3 instead of having to buy a special wireless headset just for my gaming console. I don't need to use up 35% of my HDD for backwards compatibility that allows me to play 20% of the previous generation's games...
8. Technology- Cell Processor, RSX, Blu-Ray, HDMI 1.3, Bluetooth, DVD Upconversion, Printer Support, Memory Card Slots, the ability to run Linux on the machine? Remote Start and Remote Play...The technology built into this machine is simply amazing.
9. Design- It looks very SEXY...Hold the machine in your hands. It "feels like it's worth $600." The quality of the build is unquestionable. One cannot deny the fact that the machine looks beautiful.
10. Availability- I wasn't planning on pre-ordering a PS3 or waiting in line for one last November. I figured they would be sold out everywhere for months. On a whim I decided to call a Gamestop that isn't normally very busy that is about 10 minutes from my home, to check on the availability of a PS3. They told me they had one left...I couldn't resist...Can you blame me?
