Sony has seen fit to finally give us more classic PS1 titles to play on both the PSP and the PS3. The biggest ones of late are obviously Final Fantasy VII, Residen Evil: Director's Cut, and Street Fighter Alpha 2. Sony has also announced that Metal Gear Solid is soon to arrive on the scene with many more classics on the way. So now that Sony has heard the cries of the fans, let this be your chance to tell everyone what your top five most wanted PS1 games you'd like to see come out. If you can, please give us some more in-depth reasons as to why you picked such titles so this doesn't just become a list and also to help others that may have missed the PS1 era to know what great games there are to be had. Let us hear your cries!
Final Fantasy VIII - For me, this is an obvious one. I immediately downloaded Final Fantasy VII as soon as I found out it was available and this one is next on my list. It was beautiful, the story was phenomenal, it was hard as hell, and it was loaded with quality.
Chrono Cross- Few RPGs can match the might of the epic Final Fantasy series but this is one of those few. For those that missed out on this gem, this is the sequel to Chrono Trigger. The graphics and fighting system are a complete overhaul from the 16-bit original, as is the story. But what is there is the all important level of quality. Chrono Cross delivers all of the RPG goodness one has come to expect out of Square and should be in everyone's library.
Soul Blade- While many are familiar with Soul Calibur and it's greatness, it is not the first in this awesome fighting game series. Soul Blade first appeared in arcades as Soul Edge and was later re-titled when it came to the home system. However, that was the only thing that changed. All of the arcade perfection was squeezed onto a disc and made available for fighters at home to love without quarters. Should this game come out and if you're a fighting game fan, you owe it to yourself to discover or re-discover the origins of the incredible Soul Calibur series.
Final Doom - Say what you want about the age of this series, but all FPS games owe a lot to Doom. While it wasn't absolutely a perfect PC conversion, it was very close and Final Doom added a new level of difficulty. With all new levels and the original game engine powering it, this is the true sequel to Doom. This game would be a nice reminder for PS3 owners but it would feel even better to have Doom in the palm of your hand on PSP. Creepy music, new levels, and punishingly difficult, Final Doom is a FPS for all.
Resident Evil 2 - While we already are blessed with Resident Evil: Director's Cut, Survival Horror games would not be what they are today without Resident Evil 2. It wasn't so much that it broke new ground, it was just how refined it felt when compared to it's predecessor. A deep story and different difficulty levels depending on which character you choose, this game pur the horror in the survival horror genre.
There you have it, folks. That is my list. Now, there are many many more games I would love to see come to Playstation Network but this is my top five. I purposefully left the Gran Turismo series off because the PSP has Gran Turismo coming to it later as does the PS3. Soul Calibur is on it's way but Soul Blade is a different enough formula to warrant listing here. There are many great PS1 games out there. What is your list? Tell us all your top five and tell us why you want those games. Please give reasons so we know what makes them worth owning. Sell them for us. Make us want them as much as you do. The more we talk about it is forums like this, the more Sony will hear our cries and provide us with the games we so desire.
