60gb or 80gb.

Or 40gb if your looking for something a bit cheaper, but BE WARNED: 60gb comes with 52gb, 80gb comes with 69gb, and 40gb comes with 34gb.

In my opinion, get the 60gb. Its the best value for money, and It will last quite long. 40GB will be over in months.

The best deal could be a 80GB. It has the best of the 40GB ( the console is really quiet ) and the best of the 60GB ( backward xompatibility , 4X port usb joypads ).

But I think it's only available in US.

So if you' re in Europe or a PAL country unless you can't find one, you should get a 80GB, but a 40GB is fine I think. And of course you can upgrade and change the HDD as long as it's SATA.

At the moment only 40gb are easily available in the UK as the others have been discontinued in the UK, (i think), and BTW the 40gb version does not come with 34gb as louisbrn said, it is really 40gb but obviously you need to allow for the playstation OS. and the space is calculated by having 1gb = 1, 074 mb not the conventonal 1gb = 1024 mb

If you can get your hands on the 60 GB, do so as it offers the only TRUE backwards compatility feature. I myself bought the 40 GB since I really sont care about playing PS2 games, nor do I care about media sharing on my GAMING CONSOLE. That is what a PC is for!! I bought my PS3 for games and BluRay and saving $100 sounded great to me!

so the Ntsc 60gb ps3 have ps2 Hardware (Emotion Engine)

and the Pal 60gb ps3 have ps2 Software emulation ( am i right ? )

so that mean the Ntsc 60gb ps3 are better ....... ??

80GB so we don't see another person on Gamespot complaining that they can't play PS2 games because they got something lower than 80GB.

This is how all the Sku's are.

The 20 gig SKU will support PS1 and PS2 games but doesn't have a built in wifi (not sure about the EE chip in this SKU).

The 40 gig SKU is a very stripped down SKU that not only was memory card readers removed but any hardware that was used to support PS2 games was removed. Although it had built in wifi.

The 60 gig SKU in NTSF regions had the EE chip along with every other option, but the PAL regions always used software emulation in this SKU.

The 80 gig SKU only used software emulation in all regions.

But the thing is there isn't a large difference in the number of games supported between the hardware supported systems and the software supported systems. Really the safest and best option is buy a system from your region because there can always be some problems later down the road.

I don't believe there are any PAL 80gb units out there. Anyways if you can find a PAL 60gb defiantly go with that, otherwise import a 60/80gb if you don't mind importing PS1/PS2 games or don't plan to play any at all.

Get a 80GB if you want backwards compatability, get a 40GB if you wabt a cheap (moneywise) model. About the 40GB of HDD space, you DO KNOW that you can put in a 320GB HDD in it right?

Get the 40Gb, it has all the features of the others except the card readers+ usb. It's the newest model and has the lastest components. Emulation is a heap of crap on pal ps3s. Don't bother buying a U.S. ps3 because the import cost are alot. Just get the **** 40 Gb model cus you confused me. 20Gb is a heap of **** cus you need install space nower da doys (pain in the ass). 40 Gb will not run out like the others say.
