I think it need parental lock system.

So a parent can put a lock on PS3 so it won't play rated R movies and rated M games.

If PS3 have such function, I think parents will feel safe to let Gamestop or other game stores to sell AO rated games, and gaming in general will mature out of this phase.

We have the technology to do so, so why should more mature gamers suffer because soccer moms are scared of kids play games they shouldn't? There is always simply solution like this.

I thought that was only for the movies.

Does it work for games as well?

If that's the case, why the hell parents are ******ing about Manhunt 2? Just lock it

Yes it is for games.

If you read your games manual it talks about the parental level rating... eg 9 for RFMO, which is an 18+ title in my country, and 9 means all have access.
Putting a level of 1 for example only lets you play 3+ movies and games if I remember correctly. :)

PARENTs are not saying ANYTHING about Manhunt 2 :S my mom doesnt care, she thought the first one was fun, when she used to go into my room and ask "what are you doing?.. OH manhunt! .. strangle him with a plastic bag!" .. so yeah. Maybe your parents.. mine dont care. and they never did. since i was 9 i could play the games i want. since i was old enough to decide for myself.. so get the facts right ;)

You can set parental control for DVD and BD separately

Well that's one mom

Anyway, what I was trying to say was that if it has such good parental lock system, then there really isn't much reason to make big deal about making more mature games.

Even if kids somehow gets to buy it, what then? The system is locked so you can't play it.

It should open up the gaming industry to more option like in movie industry. Less restriction and Gamestop should be allowed to sell AO games and Sony should promote it as well and defend themselves saying there is a reason why PS3 has parential lock system.

Now that I know parental lock is for gaming too, I'll be really disappointed if Sony doesn't promote more mature gaming. I've enjoyed many mature games but only to see bunch of negative media to follow it. I really hope this shuts them up for good.

the fact is, while the parental controls are there, most parents dont bother/dont know about it. so it really defeats the purpose

Well, now at least it's not Sony's fault. It's the parents fault.

Its not all that important to be honest. Nothing can replace actual parental supervision.

Some parents target games so that no mature games would be produced and there would be no risk at all of exposing a kid to violence, targeting the source is what they believe to be the solution. But my parents have never complained that much about such mature themes in games because it doesn't really affects if your upbringing is right.
