I agree with you on the call of duty. I only played it at college with my buddies but since we graduated past may none of us has time. The series is so focused on multiplayer that the single player piece is never new or different or visually unique.
I'm quite sad to say this but the two Insomniac franchise which are Resistance and Ratchet & Clank. It's time for them to move onto something new. Overstrike looks interesting but there needs to be another game in development.
The CoD. It gets on my nerves soooooooooooo badly!

I know people say COD, but what are Infinity Ward known for besides COD, I've not researched infinity ward properly so I don't know what they've made besides COD, if they stop that, I guess their key source of income will stop with it. It's like EA and Fifa, but at least EA make other games too.

Couldn't agree with you more. I don't play the multiplayer much because I suck at it. So I mostly buy it for the Campaign Mode. But it keeps getting more and more boring with each release.
Assassin's Creed II (not Assassin's Creed). Seriously, the second part of this trilogy changed into a trilogy by itself. I want to play Assassin's Creed III so I can finish the story already.
Uncharted. I love the series but I want Jak 4.
Other than that I don't think I care for the end of any other series.
I don't believe any franchise needs to end they just need breaks to feel new once again

that works in a way but if the gap is too long once the next game came out people may not be as bothered anymore because theyve had so many games since the last, but that can go either way i suppose. Why in the hell, of all the trash out there, should Demons Souls and Dark Souls end? Dark souls just started. It's two games. Two. If it only takes two games to annoy you so much that you want them to stop existing then maybe you should take a break or something.

Or would you call Black Ops a sequel to Modern Warfare 2? Or FF 13 a sequel to FF 12? That are just brand names that are reused for games which share the basic concept. NFS The Run could just be called The Run, no one would care. But the sales would decrease.
As long as I'm not forced to buy it there can be as many Ratchet&Clanks as the developers want. But I want assassin's Creed to end because it has a story that I want to see completed.
After GT5 I have to say the Gran Turismo series should end. I don't see any possibility of PD producing anything in the future that wouldn't be a decade behind every other racing game on the market.

Black ops is a sequal to WOW, MW2 is a sequal to COD4 etc. As I understand it there are characters in black ops that have appeared in other COD games, although I could be wrong. The latest NFS game looks nothing like any NFS game in the series, and every FF game is different, so I agree with you otherwise, but COD seems to be very much a 'Series' of games. EDIT. Yes, Black ops has at least one character from World at War, Vickor Reznov.

I personally think Activision should hold their horses a bit with Call of Duty though, not saying it should end permanently, they should just take an extra year or two to fine tune a new engine in and truly upgrade the gameplay and graphics a bit while retaining its old, yet classic feeling.

I also feel MGS4 should've ended the series completely, it was the perfect ending for a great series, and Kojima should focus on something brand new and amazing.
Why would anyone want to end a video game series when the series is still making great games? That doesn't make any sense at all. If a series is struggling and making weak games or flops, I understand. Series like Uncharted, God of War and Grand Theft Auto are still in their prime and still making highly rated great games so why end them now? Uncharted 3 has a 93 metacritic score and I am enjoying it. I enjoyed God of War 3 and hope there will be another soon. And I will probably get MK and the next Street Fighter. Lets see a bad flop game before people talk about ending the series. If a series is great and they continue to make great games, keep on making games! Simple as that.
If these games have the Madden effect and seeing a decline, then it would be time to end the series.

They said they had no intentions of continuing the story because they want to pursue other projects, but they left the ending of GoW3 ever so slightly continue-able just in case they felt like doing another God of War sometime down the road, which again they said was probably not likely.

It's up to Sony though. Sony are their bosses. I wouldn't mind if the next game has a different protagonist with different gameplay.
My first thought was of the yearly military shooters. But then I decided that they just need to take 'extra' time on the games. Take a few more months and make the SP campaign a little better. Hire some writers, take pride in the game not the fact that you can fire them out with minor changes. *cough, Madden, cough.*

Many of the incredibly popular series should probably end. I mean, when did it become okay to just release the same game over and over with only minor changes? What happened to the creativity of the video game industry? I guess the blame falls partly on the consumers, people keep gobbling up CODs, and Halos, and Resistances, and GOWs, and FFs, and Ratchet and Clanks, and Sonics, and GTAs, and MGSs, and all those damn Tom Clancy games. Its kinda ridiculous. Now I'm not criticizing people for playing them, whatever floats your boat, I'm just getting tired of going to the video game store and not being able to find any games that aren't just some other game by a different name(Unless they're made by a low budget company and at which point, even though they're idea is new, the execution usually suffers). Maybe I'm just jaded and have seen too much of this all before, kinda makes you jsut wanna turn off the power for good and go get some exercise...Nah maybe I'll give them one more chance..?
As a huge Final Fantasy fan having played all the console games in the series (not XI and XIV) I can safely say the series does need to end. XIII and (from impressions) of future FF titles are straying too far away from FF canon. They are running out of ideas.
