Up until recently I was dead set on upgrading my PC this year (as has been pretty much a tradition every 3 years with me since I got my first one way back in the ancient times of 1995). Then after having seen all the amazing PS3 games I've missed since selling all my systems and games late last year, I've decided that I'd be making a terrible mistake. God of War 3, Final Fantasy XIII, Red Dead Redemption, etc. I realized how much I missed playing Resistance online, how I never got a chance to play Killzone 2 in co-op, and how loyal (for the most part) I've been to, and consistently impressed with, the Playstation line of productions since their first bold step into gaming in 1995.
My decision was also compounded by the fact that PC shelves and selections have been steadily shrinking, and the realization that even if I'd decided to upgrade my rig (which by the way would have cost around $1500 every 3 years, versus $500 every 5-10 years for a new console) I'd still be dealing with potential issues with many of the games I'd likely try. Don't get me wrong, I'll still remain a PC gamer, but I've come to the realization that no gaming platform has consistently wowed me over the past 15 years the way the Playstation has (I'm still playing PS1 games as we speak).
I once owned every console after regretfully blowing a large part of an inheritance on a "games room" for myself which, in retrospect, was a wasteful, pointless decision (it cost too much time and money, not to mention the fact that the games started taking over my life). And while I believe all of the major systems have their strengths and weaknesses, ultimately the PS3 is the one which personally suits me best. I love the quality of the games, the unparalleled blu-ray media, free online gaming, and the fact that Sony actually listens to what their fanbase wants (unchanged controller design, motion control, free 3-D capability via a SOFTWARE UPGRADE!, etc.). I couldn't see myself sticking with anything else at this point.
I just regret having sold all my PS3 games, most of my PS2 games and some of my PS1 games. It has been a painful experience buying them all back now, but at least I'm thankful that the same games I once sold now cost a fraction of the price I initially paid (I've bought several of them back already). It gives me hope in a comfortable and exciting future of what Playstation gaming has in store.
NOTE: This is not meant to be a "System Wars" type scenario as I'm just expressing my appreciation of how much the PS brand means to me and why. If this belongs in SW, please move it there, otherwise I'm just trying to reach out to other like-minded Playstation gamers.
P.S.
I started playing God of War 3 today. The game is insane!
