What the ps3 is and what it could become- How the ps3 could win this generation

Although the ps3 is currently sitting in third place this console generation, there is no doubt that Sony has started to push their gaming system in the right direction. If any of you have a ps3 or keep up with gaming industry then you probably have seen how much Sony has been able to improve their platform via firmware updates. With firmware 2.40 brought us the ability to bring up the XMB(cross-media bar) when in a game(currently only ps3 games) allowing you the ability to play songs while playing a game if the game allows it, send messages without having to exit a game, view accessory settings, search the web with Google search, view the time, and the newly introduced trophy system that I think will gain more appeal the the 360's achievement points. Rather then gaining points that leads up to a number that has no significant value, wouldn't you rather have trophies where you would be able to have a better understanding about what types of gamers you play with? The reason why i think that the trophy system is the greater of the two is because there are different classes of trophies ranging from bronze(attained by achieving simple tasks)-gold(attained by doing more complex task) with the addition of the platinum trophy that can only be gained by defeating the whole game. The trophies are nice but another reason why they are better is because each and every single one of them has of importance to your gamertag. If your friend is bragging about having 100 gold trophies,so what... if you have about 25 gold trophies, 50 bronze trophies, and 10 platinum trophies then that might as well be worth more towards your level and you should in that case brag back to your friend(just an example, i am not sure of the actual values of each individual trophy)The last thing reason why i think trophies are better is because it adds up to something rather then increasing numbers that shows nothing and you gain nothing. the level system however is much more better in my opinion is because not only does the trophies that you work hard for to get displays what you have accomplished but is also goes to a greater cause in which it helps you level up and there more meaning to get trophies.( Trophies will also be integrated with home when it comes out) Another reason why Sony in my belief is going to win is because of what little big planet and home has to offer and because Sony is working to re-establish its self as what it was last generation rather then changing what they are like Microsoft which is only in it for the money and showed that by introducing their new dashboard which was solely made by copying the home concept from Sony and the Mii concept from Nintendo which is no way innovative and cannot truly call there own. I i'm not bashing microsoft because i hate them but rather because how they deal with things and solve everything with money, I to have a 360 but only got it to play the exclusive games they have to offer and did the mistake of buying a arcade. Another reason why wh ps3 is better is because you get more bang for you buck with a added blu-ray drive, a fully functional system not only with a lifespan of 10 year but probably 10+ years in your house without breaking down, you have the ability to buy third party accessories such as headsets and hardrives rather then being forced to buy to microsoft only hardive that are terribly overpriced and limited compared to what third parties have to offer thats able to be used on the ps3.And if you 360 breaks or you lose your clunky power adapeter or break it that to can be costly and put a strain on your gaming. From researching i found out that most of the time the 360 dies out from overheating with the RROD which microsoft will fix by snedind u a box that could take a week or more to get to put ur 360 in to send it back to them which takes forever to get and times a wasting only to get a reburbished 360 that has broken down before and is bound to again. For other reasons of breaking down where ther is no case of the RROD then microsoft will not fix it without you paying for it or you might have to buy a new disk drive if that is the problem. Another thing that i found very shocking is that the component cable and the power adapter can cost around $150 canadian and for a mere 20 gb hard drive it costs $120.99. Right there is almost $300 worth of money and from noing that i see that microsoft is only here for the money and once the stript up dry they could care less.

Having said all of that, there are tw0 places that i think sony has to provide on which is their online service and games. The ps3 has grown a lot from the 2.40 update but ther is more to work on. Things that sony has to do to get better at this is to eneable the ps3 users more freedom and let them be able to communicate more efficiently with their friends. And full access to the xmb to the highest pottential that it able to work on the ps3 for those of you who do not want to exit a game to watch movies, view pics, or play ps2 and ps1 games and justify that your service is even if not better compare to microsoft and not depend on "our service is free". Another thing that they have to continue and get better to do is improving their online store with great content and downloadable games that is for everyone,they also have to improve the videostore by providing more content if they want to compete with the 360 when the netflix service is available and also be allowed to be accessed by every single user and dont leave europe or canada or which ever country left out.

The second thing i think that Sony needs to work on is their library of games and HOLD ON TO AND STOP LOSING EXCLUSIVES.i hope that sony has learned that by now because is they had heldon to gta being atleast jst a timed exclusive, keep devil may cry 4 ps3 property, held on to assasins creed(might of insured that the whole trilogy would of been ps3 exclusive ) and prevented ffxiii from escaping from them then they would for sure be a head of microsoft right now. well im finish of talking about what the ps3 is and now im gonna move on to what to ps3 can becoame and how it could win this generation of the console war win a list of exclusive and big games and other things.-i cannot predict new ips so all of this id from games that are known to come out and sequals.

well im jst speculation and some sequals might take longer to develop but a game like assasins creed 2has obviosly been worked on already and ubisoft said they would release the game when they feel the hype for the game is there...so they are holing out on us

There's always room for improvement. Developing high quality games has become such an expensive venture devs have decided to make their games multi-platform to get more profit. I like things to be exclusive also. I don't know why I just do.

I saw the FFVII remake thing and really where out of the blue are they making one last time i heard they had no plans at all besides a tech demo before the ps3 came out lol.

they are bound 2 oneday and some say it was a trade off for letting xiii go multiplatform

and i think sony has the rights to ffvii

Wow...uh...you just made up a whole bunch of crap and threw in games which you want to be released. This list is no where near accurate. Mass Effect 2 one year after the release of the first? New Jak game next year which hasn't even been announced? New controller, wtf??? Assassin's Creed 2 in 2009 and then Assassin's Creed 3 in 2010?

You need to understand these AAA gamestake time to make, and alot of your dates are based on fanyboyish faith. Be patient friend! There will be lots of games to throw your money at in the near future.

I read it. I agree with a lot of your post but I think you're over-looking one of the best things about Sony: they don't rely on past successes to survive. So you're right that there'll be sequels to games like Uncharted in the next few years and God of War 3 is coming, but Sony's main strength is its ability to come up with completely new IPs that still generate a lot of hype. LittleBigPlanet and Infamous are two great examples. LBP might be the most anticipated game scheduled for a release this year and it's not even a sequel.

What I'm getting at is about 80% of the stuff you said will probably happen. However, Sony will most likely whip out three or four non-sequel, but HUGE games each year just like they've done this year (MAG, Infamous, LBP, and the "mystery game for August 3") and last year (Motorstorm, Warhawk, Uncharted) and those games should be considered too. Who knows what new stuff they'll announce next year? I mean NO ONE predicted MAG from Zipper instead of a new SOCOM. Good post, though. It was interesting to see someone look that far ahead.

Well, you won't be seeing another Heavenly Sword game as the first one is the only one and there won't ever be plans for a sequel. But damn i read alll of that and you have some interesting thoughts there lets hope a lot of them are actually true too.SPD_WeBmAsTaH

i took tht into consideration but i felt that that was one area tht sony was lacking on and i am not able to predict new ip's so i sticked to sequals and big games that might see the light of day on the ps3

Meh. Another fanboy obsessing about his game machine. The PS3 doesn't need the be #1 in the console race, it needs to make truckloads of money for Sony and third parties, then you'll see a wider variety of games and exclusives.

Being #1 doesn't matter anymore. Look at Nintendo. They're back on top, and almost nothing has changed since the days of Gamecube.

Quit writing corperate propoganda and go do something more useful with your time, like playing your cherished PS3.

anyways that is ALOT of text n im pretty tired but i believe sonys win this generation only a matter of due time but i just read this e3 sony interveiw on 1up.com ff13 is a nice anouncement for xbox even though it will b better and more convenient with 1 instead of 18 discs lol but in the interveiw they asked if sony had some rpgs on the horizon and from their response it sounds like they go no 1st party rpgs for certain but could be heavily thinking about it n with these terrible recent square enix xbox announcements but it got me thinking wtf! where is Legend of Dragoon 2 it would be huuge for sony im sure just the announcement would increase the time to sonys undesputed victory anyway pardon 4 the poor grammar but my wrist is broken typin wit 1 hand anyone else got a comment to sare on this?
