You should be looking at computer monitors , not tvs.  Any tv you will buy in your pricerange will be terrible.  Look at ViewSonic and NEC lcd monitors at about 22".

I have a better question, why the hell are you spending 400 dollars on a TV? Save up at least 1000 and that's at LEAST. Don't buy cheap, you'll be sorry you did.

WORD! If your budget is that tight, you don't need to be getting into the HDTV market and need to stick with a monitor as the other poster suggested. Even if you buy a small HDTV (32" or so), you'll need to spend $800-1000 minimum to get a good quality set.

This is the best I could find,  http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Samsung-19-LCD-HDTV-LN-T1953H/sem/rpsm/oid/173617/catOid/-12869/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do Its on sale for $455 and it is a 19inch. Also it has the HDMI and has game mode. Plus it's hard to go wrong with a samsung.

You're actually recommending a Vizio to someone for gaming? I know a few people who have Vizio's, and while they're not bad as a second unit for a bedroom or something, they're not exactly primetime material from what I've seen. Sure, it'll do, but if you're going to spend $500-600, save a little more and get something better quality for $800-1000. Like this Samsung or Sony

since when is 32'' considered small? Maybe I just grew up poor, but from what ive seen in mine and everyones I knows houses save for a few people, most of the televisions in their living room are 40'' and under down to about 30''...

i like that one, so I think I'll go with the one you said ( person above me) cause it's got 1080i, 200:1 Contrast ratio and nice sized screen too! Hopefully it'll still be around when I save enough for a PS3 which should be pretty soon!

That is true, however, we are talking HDTV here, 32" IS small for an HDTV, at least a true HDTV. In the past, 32"+ cost an arm and a leg. With the progression of technology, it has gotten much cheaper. Not to mention that much lower than retail prices can be had by buying online as online shops don't have the cost of maintaining a store front to deal with. I'm not saying you have to spend $1000 to get a good TV, just that you have to spend $1000 if you want a good quality, flat-panel HDTV. If you're a kid or a college student on a tight budget, get a nice 22" monitor and a TV tuner for your PC for ALOT less than $1000. Just don't confuse a $500 27" "HDTV" as being the same thing. I didn't grow up rich either, but I've always had a job and I was taught if you want something bad enough, SAVE FOR IT! If you're talking about today's instant gratification society, sure go out and buy a cheapo, low quality unit that you won't be happy with in 2 years. If you've got an ounce of self control, save up the extra and buy quality now that won't have to be replaced for years to come. That's all I'm saying.

What I mean by true HDTV is that anything under 32" is a waist as its hard to tell the difference from SDTV. I'm not referring to 1080p. Just thought I'd clarify that. You may have a different opinion, but from what I've seen of the really small HDTV's, they're not worth the price tag when you can get a much larger SDTV for the same $$ that looks just as good. That is unless you are strictly looking for a flat-panel, in which case I stand by my statement of monitor over "HDTV" under 32".

i dunno my 27" is perfectly fine and displays up to 1080i and it looks much much better than any sdtv I have ever seen. And not only is it good for gaming and blu-ray, but i can watch tv on it without having to purchase extra equipment. The size of the tv doesnt change the quality of it.

Actually you can get some good 19" HDTV's with hdmi inputs for $400... Personally, I have a 32" and a 42" and they're awesome. But the 15" - 19" is nothing to scoff at if the alternative is gaming on a SDTV! For instance, the displays on kiosks are only 15" tvs at most stores.

I recently got an Insignia 26 inch 720p HDTV for exactly $400. My previous gaming TV was a 25 inch 480i. this one has HDMI and two component inputs. the difference is phenomonal. I think I got one of the best deals. 26 inches is not bad, even for an HD, and at that price.

That's not true... the display monitors at Gamestop & EB Games look WAY better than an SDTV picture would. You can still see much more detail than you would on a large screen SDTV.

I got a Olevia 232V on Black Friday for around 500 bucks.  It's 32in with HDMI inputs.  The picture is great and have not had any problems with it at all.  If anything they skimped on the audio, but most take care of that with an additional audio setup.  It's not a Sammy or Sony, but it will definitely help you get more out of your PS3.  Go with what fits your life style and the importance of gaming to you.

Just get a Vizio.  I work in electronics at a Sam's Club.  I'm no engineering genius but, I know more about televisions than the average 31 year-old.  Vizio LCDs tend to have lower contrast ratios than Sonys and Samsungs of similar screen size; other than that, they're decent quality (their not LGs but their ok!)  Check out their website: http://www.vizio.com.  Just see it for yourself, and while you're at it check out Gamespot's parent website/company, CNET.com, for reviews.  I have a Vizio (vx37L).

Yea, that was a great deal... did you find that retail or online? I plan on buying my cousin a PS3 for Christmas... only reason I'm waiting for Christmas is b/c I intend to buy him an hdtv too... I was going to go with a 19".

not trying to start a politics debate but its kind of childish to say that people who support Bush are any less credible than those who do not. People have different opinions and different lifestyles and if Bush's administration have brought about good things for them then they will agree with him. Does not mean they are crazy or fanatical. It just means they are different than you. Jeez....you liberals and conservatives sure know how to drive us moderates insane dont you :P

That's good to hear as I will be picking one up next Monday. I read in Consumer Reports that this is one the best HDTVs for the price. My only concern was how the PS3 would play on it. Good to know!

Agree 100% - it is not worth the extra money compared to a SDTV. However, if I bought anything less than a 32-inch I would go with an EDTV - 480p and it will look great. Anything larger than that I would go with HDTV - if you are buying a smaller tv it is better to have a good quality EDTV than a poor quality HDTV. As gamers you also have to watch out for lag in the picture so make sure to check that out - nothing will ruin the gaming like lag in your picture.......
