2.5" SATA Hard Drive, either 5400 rpm or 7200 rpm. I recently put in a 320GB drive, really simple to do - takes about 5 minutes

When you do put a new HDD in, you do you keep your save files? Can use just copy them to a flash drive and then copy them back onto the new HDD once its formatted?

Exactly- copy your save files to any external storage, flash, ipod etc and then change over

5400RPM is the correct one. If you get the 7200RPM is cause extra heat to build up within the ps3.
