Just started playing Crysis 2 and it's full of some of these moments. Best one was when the alien ship flew into the bridge haha.
Mirror's Edge had many of them, the city is just brilliant. Darksiders' ending was WOW-ish as well.
My favorite, while not a PS3 game YET is the ending of FFX.
I just recently had a nostalgia moment while playing Batman: Arkham City.(Minor spoilers) Towards the beginning of the game there was a Bell Tower level where you had to find Joker after he tried to shoot Catwoman. Kind of reminded me of the first Michael Keaton Batman movie where he fought the Joker in in a similar setting.
I know this topic comes up once in awhile, but I love the nostalgia these moments bring back. What were those gaming moments that made you go WOW and renewed your zest for gaming? What moments will stay with you always? For me most recently, it was after the opening cinematic and climbing up the train cars in Uncharted 2...amazing opening...Mdmazn
That's definitely one of my favorite moments as well. Here are a few others....
I can't really think of anything completely specific, but I can say that Arkham City has blown my mind on several occations. It just so incredibly well designed in every facet. The riddler trophies are much more involving this time and the puzzles are outstandingly well crafted. Seriously, this game does EVERYTHING better than any other game I have ever played. I couldn't pick one thing that I like the most. It does everything too well!
All the other games up to this one that have kindled a great deal of gaming bliss in me are New Super Mario Bros. Wii (star coins), Punch-Out!! (challenges), Super Mario Galaxy 2 (most creativity I have seen in a game), Batman Arkham Asylum (was my favourite action adventure this gen until Arkham City), inFAMOUS (brilliant set of powers and use of open world aids combat greatly) and Donkey Kong Country Returns (100 percenting this game takes more skill and time than the vast majority of games out there, but I'll still try and love it) .
The wow moment for me that comes to mind is when I first experienced grand theft auto 3. Amazing it was......I refer to it as a gaming euphoric moment.
The first time I played World of Warcraft (:P sorry I had to)
But on a serious note I was extremely wowed by Diablo back in the day on my old crappy family comp. I was awful at the game but I had so much fun. Finally got around to finished uncharted 2 today and the very last scene really wowed me. It brought on so many different kinds of emotions (never really find myself laughing at the end of an action game) and it just felt so refreshing to have and ending that wasn't a huge cliffhanger or even worse....Rage's ending
ending of infamous...BAM
some of the boss battles in resistance 2
wielding the lightning gun on killzone 2
I remember this one moment so clearly. It was when I first got my 50 inch plasma tv. First game I played on it was Fallout 3. As soon as you leave the vault for the first time, and the light hits you. WOW!
I'll focus on this generation only.
Infamous ending, BioShock intro, Fallout 3 in it's entirety, Uncharted 2 Convoy chapter, and most recently plugging in my eletric guitar into my PS3 to play Rocksmith.
When I first played God of War in PS1. Uncharted 2 was an epic wow for me too. And for some reason, I really enjoyed the airplane mission in Battlefield 3's single player, really realistic experience.
Walking out of the train station in the beginning of Half Life 2. Simply amazing. Exiting Vault 101 in Fallout 3 was really memorable as well.
E3 of 2010. I was really hoping for a Twisted Metal announcement, but all signs pointed to the fact that there wasn't going to be one. There hadn't been any news on the Twisted Metal series in ages and David Jaffe confirmed that he wouldn't be making an appearance at E3 (which made me pretty upset and destroyed any hype I had for E3). Still, I had a bit of hope that maybe, just maybe there was going to be a Twisted Metal announcement, but as I was watching it and Sony's conference got closer and closer to the end, any ounce of hope I had was gone, and was beginning to grasp the reality that there was no Twisted Metal PS3.
Then, they showed that Taxi trailer and ****ING SWEET TOOTH CAME ON STAGE WITH HIS ICE CREAM TRUCK! Words cannot describe my level of excitement, but needless to say I was pumped. I still can't wait until February to get my hands on the game. :)
Edit: Here's the Taxi trailer I was referring to:

as far as ps3 games...my first wow moment was cod4...everything about it.
other games were
uncharted 1's platforming section in the castle/stronghold
mgs4 graphics on the first mission
assasins creed 1s setting...it made a better impression of a living world than gta
nba 2k11's player animation
god of war 3's graphics...jaw dropping
uncharted 2's epic settings...
When I first fired up "World at War" after years and years of PS2 online, and i saw how sharply defined and beautiful everything looked, and how much easier it is to see enemies at a distance... I was blown away. A lot of games still do that for me, where I get wowed by the brilliance of everything.
"Heavenly Sword", "Enslaved", ME2...
I'm blown away by the scope of "Just Cause 2" and how blow-up-able it all is... "Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising" is knockin' me out on Hardcore (people talk about BF3 being real - HA!). "OpFlashpoint" is one of the most amazing games I've ever played, in terms of getting it to feel like a real, tense, military game. It may not be polished like CoD, or as hyped as BF3, but for my money "OpFlash" out-guns both of them.
"Resistance: Fall of Man" was one long "Wow" moment, even though it's derivative of every classic FPS ever made. "Alone in the Dark: Inferno" turned out to be one of my all-time fav horror games. The cinematic feel kept me into the game and very attached to the characters. "BioShock"...
... that's all you need to say. "BioShock".
Lots of games have given me a "Wow".
During 3-2 (world 3 part 2, Tower of Latia) in Demon's Souls, a gargoyle popped out of nowhere right after the elevator during my climb up one of the towers and knocked me off the narrow pathway, right as I was checking out a blood stain and reading a player message that warned whats up ahead. WOOOOOOOW
First time stepping out onto Tallon IV in Metroid Prime,
Coming out of the Temple of Time to fine Hyrule destroyed in OoT.
The Truth video at the end of Assassin's Creed 2.
Fighting The End in MGS3.
Fighting striders on that bombed-out rooftop in Half-Life 2
Pretty much every level in Sonic CD.
Reading that dude's diary at the end of Flashback
The entirety of Out of This World.
Choosing to jump off the hotel roof in Heavy Rain and surviving.
I have had quite a few:
Uncharted series (2nd one mostly "the intro!" and probably the 3rd one will once I get it)
MGS4 (I was wowed by the installation of each Act and the entire game pretty much by its story and how everything came to a close in the "Solid" series, also the main reason I got a PS3)
Mortal Kombat (Wasn't big into fighting games until this one)
Red Dead Redemption (Wowed by the western theme and sandbox gameplay plus all the challenges to do and how addicting the multiplayer was)
Portal 2 (Campaign and Co-op plus cross platform play between PS3 and PC)
Demon's Souls (Wowed by the addictiveness of the game and how great it really is and how challenging it was but in the end it was not impossible)
Assassin's Creed 2 (Wowed by how much they improved from the predecessor and how they made it less repetetive and more missions to do in a more beautiful area. Loved it more than Brotherhood)
Dead Space (Wowed by the ambiance of space and horror combined, mix this with a no lights on and surround sound for the max effect....pure awesome)
Call of Duty Black Ops: (Wowed by the split-screen online and how they advanced the zombies mode even further)
God of War 3 (Wowed by the gameplay and visuals/audio. The poseidon intro battle was freaking epic! The game was beautiful to look at and one of my favorite games to just pick up and play randomly)
Burnout Paradise (Wowed by how many hours I could clock into a racing game...not that big into racing but I have 100+ hours in this game)
Sephiroth killing Aerith
All of Suikoden 2
Metal Gear Solid 4 return to Shadow Moses
Uncharted 2 train scene
Ocarina of time garudo valley
TMNT the arcade game... first time I saw it as a kid I was in heaven
