I don't understand how 3G can be implemented into this, Sony has already said it won't be a phone. Will it be for sending text messages or something?

3G is a data connection. it gives you internet access when you are not able to get on wifi. jj42883Also it's a faster method compared to using wi-fi.

This. So basically you can be online nearly anywhere to browse the web, access multiplayer content, etc. I can see how some people would really appreciate this.
However, I'm personally not the one who's going to shell out cash every month for this. Just WiFi for me thanks.
Also it's a faster method compared to using wi-fi. it depends a lot on the 3G network you are on, signal strength, the type of wifi (b, g, or n) and your distance from the wifi router, but in general, wifi is MUCH faster than 3g.[QUOTE="jj42883"]3G is a data connection. it gives you internet access when you are not able to get on wifi. jasonharris48
Also it's a faster method compared to using wi-fi. But you need to pay for that through subscription.[QUOTE="jj42883"]3G is a data connection. it gives you internet access when you are not able to get on wifi. jasonharris48
3G will be ultra awesome unless it needs a subscription. If it does, crap. At least it supports n wifi now.

It does. They already said it won't be free(like the Kindle) but they haven't given news about anything else. My guess is you'll get a data plan from a major cellular company like you do with a phone or internet tablet.
WIFI depends on internet connection, where as 3g represents a specific speed. My wifi speed is 22.4 Mbps.

There it says ATT is doubling 3g to 14 Mbps.
