I have had this game since it came out and I still have yet to play it. I beat the first boss that everyone usually dies from at first and stopped right after. Not because I don't like it though. At the time a lot of games that I wanted were coming out so it got pushed back along with Dragon Age: Origins. I'll get to them eventually.
You can't interact online with other players at all. It's just like playing offline.

so basically less fun? Yes, much less fun. And almost impossible to get the platinum. If it wern't for online play I never would have beaten the game, even once. But thats just me
Well there goes my chances of beating Maneater again >.> seriously every boss is easy but him.... he's sooooooooooooooooooo cheap, FlameLurker was a peice of cake, maneater was a cheapass even with a full team of blue phantoms....
Demon Souls won't be as fun mind you, I thought I'd play it only singleplayer but it's multiplayer was such a welcomed addition once I tried it, especially just dueling your friends or helping someone random
It's a perfectly fun, working game without being online. You'll be in for a little more of a challenge without the hints, but I'm sure you'll manage just fine nonetheless. Demon's Souls is kind of a trial and error game anyway.
I played through it about 1/2 and 1/2, mainly because I just didn't like being interrupted by invasions while I was trying to finish a level. I found it pretty obnoxious and hope you have more of a choice in the matter (besides soul form) if there's a sequel. Otherwise, it was nice to be online to see hints and other players wandering about, but not at all necessary.
I've always thought this to be a single player game anyways. I haven't played it myself, but I don't think it would "rely" on the online feature..?

It doesn't. I played almost the entire game offline, which was necessary to I could control my world tendencies to get the platinum. (granted if you haven't played Demon's Souls you probably know nothing about world tendencies)
