Emotion Engine. Its the chip that was in the PS2, thus giving the older PS3's a very good BC (backwards compatibility) rating. Something upwards 95%.

But they are taking it out of the new PS3's, and using emulation software (which is what the Xbox 360 uses). So it *could* lower BC ratings by a lot. But with the emulator, its easier to upgrade over firmware, so 100% BC still is possible.

But people seem to think the emulator is going to be as bad as the one in the 360. I don't think so, but we'll just have to wait and see.

it is the chip set that was used in the PS2 and then put into the PS3 to make about 98% of the PS2 titles compatible

with it removed that %age drops to about 70-75% of the games that are compatible

its a chip that basically emulates the ps2 so you can play your ps2/ps1 games. don't worry about the EE chip though. it may have better compatibility now but what people don't realize that with the next firmware up date or 2 the EE chip will just simply be disabled and not used and all the consoles will have software emulation. i don't understand why people have no faith in software emulation... is is because of microsoft's failed attempt??
