I basically killed every enemy I came across in the game. Even got medals for it at the end. I plan to go back and stealth next time. Part of the beauty that is MGS4 is the choices given to you as to how you want to play the game.
There are a lot of good things about MGS4. If you are unable to appreciate stealthy gameplay, that may make it difficult to enjoy all the other fantastic things the game offers. If that is indeed the case, I truly feel sorry for you for missing out on the greatest experience in gaming this console generation has seen.
i just dont see the point in playing a "stealth" shooter gameand thats why i chose to get COD4 over this gamewwedx
I dunno if this goes in the wrong direction or not, but I know alota school pals, didn't enjoy this game because they didn't experience the other MGS games,so they really went into MGS 4 knowing nothing about it. Story and gameplay wise

Maybe you should get the essential collection first if your ps3 can play ps2 games. No MGS games should be missed they are all good and you can catch up on the story

MGS4 is a epic single player campaign along with a very-very addicting online shooter...
The fact that with a click of the triangle button can switch the game from a 3rd Person shooter to a 1st person shooter is a new feature I love...
I never played a MGS game before this one and I can honestly say that it easily one of my favorite games I've ever played and I'm not easily impressed...
It's not just about the gameplay or killing people it's about the great story and great characters. If you play MGS 4 without knowing anything of the story you wont enjoy it.
I didn't try online so I can't tell. What repel me is too many and too long cut-scenes and bosses with super natural powers. I like it as realistic as possible
MGS4 is so polished, it really is unique. You are right though, it is not meant to be played as a shooter, though you can if you choose to. Rent it or borrow it and play threw Act 1 and 2, then decide if you like it or not.

Id Advise against gettin MGS4 man really.....dont get me wrong it deserves a ten but, seeing as you havent played any of the previous it will b extremely hard to get into.....my friend is a die hard fan and he kills himself tryin to wonder why im not into it like everyone else is....Its a GORGEOUS game with EXTREMELY long cut scenes and flashbacks that one can only appreciate if they have played priors.....It is a masterpiece im just not into it because i didnt play the past ones and i sided with splinter cell at the time.....i wouldnt get it man
Preference mainly, I just think that mindless shooting (not necessarily COD 4) isn't particulary fun. MGS4 lets you do things both ways really well, a large variety of guns for you to kill enemies in many ways, and stealth if you want to sneak past the enemies instead in confrontation.
Edit: O yes, forgot to mention that the story in MGS is extremely well told.

I feel TC's anguish here. I played 1, 2 and 3. 1 and 2 I liked a lot, but 3 just didn't do it for me, I never got into it much, maybe I should have stayed in there longuer but too late now. 4 in calling me eeing as that you can go at it guns blazing or stealthy. i don't know...
Everything about it is amazing, the story, the characters, the gameplay, the graphics...EVERYTHING. I think its the only game on this site that deserves a perfect 10 score. GTAIV was great but nothing compared to MGS4.

You know whats funny the whole super natural powers would have worked in previous games but not with 4... you see in MGS4 they explain everything with science. Nothing is because someone has some super abilities or anything it is explained as some sort of science experiment. Truthfully if you look at the whole story of MG everything is quite possible...
If you dont beleive me just give me one of the scenarios that dont seem possible and I can give a somewhat logical explanation for it.

Exactly dont get into the hype... I love the game i think it is the best of all time, but if I never played any of them before I would be like WTF!
if u want a truly shooting game and wants a great gameplay ur best to keep COD4, MGS is just don't worth it for gameplay alone, i really hate MGS cause the story is not my kind of thing.
or watch bunch of video of it, it really help u showing how the game really is, it does really help me with other game, i watch the video of GTA4, and i got it for free and it does feel so dissapointed like in the video it really feels so similar.
MGS4 is soo good its undescribable. It has the best visuals on PS3, a fun NON STEALTH IF YOU LIKE online mode, and a NON STEALTH if you like story mode. But it is a bit more exiting if you creep around and play the game the way it was origionally conceved, but this is the best game on PS3, so you should definitely get it.
one thing missing from mgs4 is the muddyness and color-scheme of the previous MGS games, specifically MGS1. It just doesn't feel the same....the intro bores me to death ...i don't need another game depicting or mimicking a middle-eastern type of war. Top notch production value but missing that touch of the original.
It has the best story, best graphics and best gameplay. Of course you could say it's a crap game because you can't run around freely in a city or simply drive around and run people down.
Everything is GREAT about it. The story, the graphics, the gameplay, the music, the sound, the level of details in this game from face models to weapons to cutscenes are just beyond anything out and I doubt a game in the near future will surpass it. Get it, you won't regret it.
