Whats so great about HAZE?

Everytime I have asked someone who is talking about it there like, "I dunno bit its going to be awsome" is it just another crap fanboy game or is it something to buy? What makes it great?

They made the Timesplitters series and the founders worked on Goldeneye for N64. From what I have seen though Haze does not appear to be anything remarkable. I will buy UT3 instead and maybe Call of Duty 4 for my FPS fix.

another generic shooter with a VERY generic twist.

then again, so is halo.

Well for me, it's because it's the game that most closely matches perfect dark for the N64... I swear that game set the bar for hella fun multiplayer (still play it today when my uncles come over, no joke).

And also because the nectar uses, like you get super focused or whatever when you take it, but when you overdose from it you go crazy (which should create some loud and fun multiplayer sessions)

And then there's that whole "play dead" thing which I find very interesting...

I'm just hoping they have unique weapons... that's the only thing that I can see missing so far, and that's a bad thing for a futuristic FPS like this.

Oh well then perhaps you should have said "I don't get why everyone is interested in HAZE because it seems uninteresting to me."

Had you said that I would have to say that what's interesting to me is the different uses of Nectar and the varying gameplay between Mantel and Promise Hand. The whole getting to use a super drug and then getting to use a super drug against them thing.

the reason i think it will be good is because its made by the developers who made time splitters, an awesome series

I like the whole weopan steal and its looks nice.

- Excellent graphics.

- Intriging story about blind loyalty, and and the morality/politics of war.

- 2types of soldiers to play as, with combat styles that are not only completely different, but individuallyinteresting (drug-based powerups, psychological warfare and exploitation, etc.).

- 4-player online co-op throughout the entire single-player portion.

- Mantel vs. Rebel Team Deathmatch.

And that's just the stuff we know about.

I really really hope that the weapon stealing is implemented in multiplayer. I'd love to hide behind a tree or arock then pop out on my friend and yank his weapon away!!! He'd be totally defenseless, and I could heartlessly tease him! The overdose is a multiplayer must too!!cannibal127-9

Both overdose and weapon stealing have been confirmed for multiplayer (as well as playing dead).

I'm really looking forward to HAZE because it's FRD (Free Radical Design). I've loved all the FPS they have put out so far and HAZE will be no different. I really think the multiplayer on this game is going to take people by surprise.

what sets it apart form other games for me is nectar, a performance enhancing substance that you can use at will as a mantel trooper, it increases speed, power, perception, etc, but you can overdose and loose control of your trigger and the ability to tell the difference between friend or foe (you will automatically shoot anyone you point your gun at).

also, as a rebel you can use nectar against the mantel troopers by making them overdose, rebels can also play dead and steal troopers guns.

thats what makes it look so different (and look so great) compared to other fps to me.

A few things have me excited...

• Mantel, the private military company that you fight for, gives its troops a battle-enhancing drug called Nectar. This drug can be used while you're playing to add and improve certain abilities - for example, it highlights all enemies in orange for easier targeting and greatly increases running speed. However, as with a lot of drugs, you can overdose on it accidentally. When that happens, you go into a frenzied state, setting off grenades unintentionally and blurring the lines between friend and foe. It can be scary seeing a Mantel soldier overdosing before blowing himself (and his whole team) up.
• Mantel soldiers are extremely arrogant. Their visors censor all the blood and dead bodies on the battlefield to improve troop moral and make it seem like they're "winning". As the game progresses though, lead character Shane Carpenter will start to see what's really happening around him. The visor comes off and the consequences of his actions become clear. This basically means that Haze has no blood or gore until Shane switches sides to the Rebels half-way through the game.
• Once on the Rebel side, Shane learns a few neat abilities. Nectar is now gone, but his experience using it has taught him all the weaknesses which he can exploit. For example, he can slash the Nectar tube attached to the back of a Mantel troop's head, sending him into a frenzy. One frenzied troop can take out an entire Mantel squad since the Nectar is making him think his friends are enemies.
• When close to death, Shane can "play dead" at the press of R2. The troops' visors censor his "dead" body, making him seem invisible. He can then pop-up behind them and gun them down.
• The Mantel troops' arrogance allows Shane to steal weapons out of their arms. The last thing they expect you to do is run up to them, punch them in the face and use their own gun against them.
• Shane can also plant basic grenade traps in the ground. Also, any Nectar packets he picks up from dead Mantel troops can be combined with normal grenades to create a Nectar gas bomb. These disperse a cloud of Nectar when they explode, sending any Mantel troops nearby into a frenzy.
• Haze will feature 24-player multiplayer. Knowing Free Radical's awesome multiplayer heritage (including the TimeSplitters series and part-creation of GoldenEye64), this will be fantastic. They have confirmed that multiplayer will support LAN, split-screen and online modes, and will have optional "bots" too.
• There will also be 4-player online co-op, which supports up to two people per PS3. This means that you and a friend can fight alongside someone else and their friend.
• It is out in November 2007, just in time for Christmas.

free radicals dev history is the thing that makes me think this could be good.

Nobody reallys knows whether this is a good/bad game, it could be amazing it could be terrible nobody knows.

I'm thinking it's looking interesting but compared to other 3rd party games coming its looking average when compared to cod4 UT3.

Some of the levels look amazing(jungle level) but some of the levels look terrible(check out the new level shown at E3) but allot of polish has been done since then.

Hopefully a demo would come soon and we can get an impression of the game if not we will have to wait for reviews.

You will play as both in HAZE. Possible [spoiler] They've made it very clear that the story revolves around Shane switching sides when they get ambushed by rebel troops. My guess is that somewhere between 25% to 50% through the game you switch over. [/spoiler]

I don't see why people think this is some killer APP. To me it looks like garbage. Graphics don't look good, gameplay looks boring and uninspiring and the story isn't really that original either. Meh maybe it'll be good.

Being an exclusive helps - ports suck, all gamers know that. Im getting UT3 COD4 and HAZE, they are all very different games and i am looking forward to each one for different reasons.
