What's the point of trophy levels?

I've been wondering this one for a while. Are there only 5 levels, and if so, what's the point? As more and more games start supporting trophies you'll be way beyond level 5. Hell, you should be at level 5 after only getting the trophies in Uncharted. Any help please? I'm confused.biscuits3

It shows your exposure to games and experience as a PS3 gamer. For instance, look at my GS Level and number of posts. Gives you an idea of how long I've been around and how active I am on the forums.

completing Uncharted fully with 48 trophies only gets you to level 4, the more trophies you have the higher the level but right now only a few games support trophies, next year trophy system will be implemented in almost all games. Trophy levels are just bragging rights really

The levels are the point of the whole system. If regular games are going to have roughly 50 trophies each, it won't take long for people to have hundreds, if not thousands, of trophies. This is why the levelling becomes important.

Think of it like an RPG. The trophies are experience points, but the level reflects where you are really at.

They've said before that they are going to be keeping an eye on the levels and as people approach the "top" level, they are going to add more so it will essentially be limitless so you can never reach the highest level.

What makes you think it would stop at level 5? That makes no sense. It will just take more and more trophies to get to the next level. And not enough games are out with trophies right now to get to those higher levels.

Yep. The level currently goes up to 50 on PSN but it'll keep being upped as more players get to level 25 and up.

Yeah its level 50 - I think you misread this somewhere and thought it said 5.

And I'm sure they will increase it from 50 if necessary.
