Not even remotely similar.
Every electronic device has it's problems, but Sony has made sure they've used top quality components and given adequate venting to avoid the solder over-heating problems that the 360 had.
There is a rumor of an apprent yellow light of death. But I haven't had any problems with my machine and I got mine on launch day.
At launch the Failure rate was 0.2%, and it should still be that but with all the new models it might have gone to 0.3 or 2, but it still way less than the 33%/"17%", claimed by the 360.
The YLOD is very rare, and is usually caused by not enough care.
The 360's problems seem to have faded considerably though. No longer do we see threads saying "OH NO, MY 360 RROD'd". It was a horrible thing that happened, and it happened to me twice, but that was about 14 months ago and I've had zero problems since (and my friends have been RROD free as well).GrindingAxe
Yeah, you dont see those threads anymore because there's been a whole gigantic sticky thread dedicated to the problem....
Dude I love my 360, but damn what a lol question. The 360 easily has the worst failure rate of any electronic device of all time, not just game consoles. Maybe you should read in-depth article on Gamespots home page detailing the exact #s, its really ridiculous.
I'm one of the lucky guys that has a 360 still working since launch (granted I don't play it much), but everyone I know who owns a 360 is on there 2nd or 3rd console. Two of my friends who hate Sony with a passion (fanboys) even broke down and got the PS3 cause they were sick sending the old box of for repair while their whole game library is out of commission lol.

LMAO! I was in that thread yesterday (please don't ask why :?) Not to sound like a fan boy but the failure rate of the PS3 is no where close to the 36o. Here is the latest failure rate estimate as of Feb 2008. Failure Rates: Xbox 360 16%, Nintendo Wii 3%, Sony PS3 3%.
Also to be truthful the YLOD is not a real known issue. This was something that was created by some fan boys to sound good against the RROD. If a PS# overheats it's because of YLOD. If the PS3 stop reading disc it's because of YLOD. The yellow light on the PS3 is nothing more than the HDD indicator. So the yellow light is only in regards to the HDD. So yes the PS3 can have hardware failure but it's not a known issue like the RROD. Take it from me, I have had my PS3 since Sep 07 and it averages 4 hrs a day on weekdays and at least 12 on weekends(don't always turn it off)

Yeah my Live subscription ran out late last year and doubt I'll be renewing it. Sure its got PSN beat on features, but they are features I really never used. Honestly I find games on PSN to have little to no lag. Its strange when I can play with 32p on Warhawk, or 40p on Resistance, but then lag out so hard with 16p on Halo 3. I also usually run into cooler people on PSN. I really don't see why people think live is so much better, or even worth paying for. I mean sure, last gen Xbox Live was a god send, but compared to PSN for free now its kinda meh...whatever.
edit: @jojo lol

Yeah, but on sites other than GS, you don't see the outrage over the RROD that you once saw. Things have calmed down considerably. And even here on GS, the big 'gigantic' sticky isn't being posted on nearly as much as it once was. You go back 4 pages on it and your going back a whole month. Not really a hot topic anymore.
I haD my ps3 for YEAR then I got the ylod, sent it away to get repaired, got a new one with a 3 month warrenty.
then 3 and a half months later, i got hard drive corruption and i need to get it repaired again... its really getting on my nerves
Abicus7
Harddrives can corrupt they do on pcs and macs, why not consoles. Did you try to reformat it? You see the ps3 hard-drive is a laptop hard-drive, you can change it yourself without voiding the warrenty! Directions are in the ps3 manual. There is even a way to format your hd with the ps3 if that happens....Probably could of solved that issue yourslef, and redownloaded all your psn stuff for free. Hd's are so cheap for ps3, I got a 320gb for mine for $90. You can get a 80gb for around $40.
I have had mine since April when GTA4 came out and its been a great expearience! No problems at all. ANd I play it all the time! ITs only going to get better and better while 3fixme has hit its peak already. Anyone who buys a console with a 33% failure rating and knows about the failure rating is just retarded and they deserve the rrod for not being smart. PS3 failures are rare...this guy here just got unlucky!
Microsoft should stick to software cause they're not cut out to make hardware lol
ANUBIS209Had my 60GB since launch and so far so good. I never take it anywhere nor do I play it in hot temp. room. Dust it and clean it once a week; just take care of her and she will take of you :)Nocturnal_Speed
So true! If you baby your systems they wont let you down.
Oh and love the avatar!!! :D
I had the ylod after 11 months but I'm getting my replacement ps3 tommorrow so its no big deal. Sony was happy to take it off my hands and send a new one. I took great care of my ps3 though. When I went to clean it the last time it wouldn't turn on from stanby.
I'm looking for a good large harddrive.

The first next gen system I bought was a 360. It worked fine for 8 months then the dvd drive took a sh-t. 1yr later I bought a PS3 80gb for $499.99 w/ a 20% discount, I worked at Walmart at the time. So my PS3 cost me $399.99. The whole purchase when I was done buying it w/ a 2yr warranty, 2 games and a controller was $614.49. Back to the topic, I've had my PS3 for about 9 1/2 months, total gaming hrs 2,980 sometimes I leave it run all night. It also has a 200gb high performance 2.5'' Sata 2 HDD. The Last time I was at Bestbuy the offical failure rates were 30% for 360 thats 3 out 100 and 2% for PS3. Nanj29
I hate being nitpicky cuz that's not me, but 30% would be 30/100. :P

haha yeah that sux
The failure rate is EXTREMELY low (as others have said)... That is if you take care of it...
Here are some tips for you:

that is because they got tired of complaining about it not because it has gotten any better and also they don't want to make the 360 look bad so they do not complain as much my friend had an xbox got the rrod sent it to micro 2 weeks got another rrod again and he still has not gotten it back yet. it is a good thing he has a ps3 also

You cant use LOD, Light Of Death in the same sentences as rare, That's called an oxymoron. Saying its rare indicates it doesn't happen often if at all, but using LOD says its a widespread problem that happens a lot. See the dilemma here? So therefor the rumored YLOD does not exist, unless you're either 12 years old, an idiot, or both; then your PS3 will work fine. however there is a chance that you'll be one of the .03% in which Sony will either replace for free or fix for free you System.
