i have a 60gb launch ps3. a few months ago i started to see some graphical glitches in some of my games. in assassins creed 2, a 3d spike would appear on the character, in gta iv and stories from liberty city, objects flash white, even in cut scenes.

today i got red dead redemption, and while not as bad as gta, it's there.

i was reading online and it seems other people had these problems before their ps3's died on them. anyone have any info on this problem?

Most likely your laser is dying or your PS3 is overheating. I remember last summer I had my PS3 in my bedroom upstairs which the room would be about 90 degrees and games would keep freezing or there would be a lot of glitches with lots of different games. I moved my PS3 to the basement and all the problems went away since my basement is about 65 degrees or so.

Its not your ps3 its you. Serious note sounds like your laser or graphics card is dying, I had this issue with battle field on the PC along time ago.

it's called artifacting andunfortunatelythere are a few causes for it. i had this problem a while back and called sony and doing all their steps did absolutely nothing. They told me to send it in which i didn't, i just bought a new system since there was a sale going on. Then i bought a used broken ps3 off of some guy at my work and started swapping parts and fixed it. I am pretty sure it was the hard drive but not entirely sure since it was a while ago.

this might be a stupid question, but if i buy a new ps3, and i transfer my saves from this one, there's no chance they could corrupt my new system?

It is not overheating becase when the system overheats itshutdown by itself and the power light beging to flash red.

i doubt the problem is related to data corruption if soyou wouldnt be able to accessthat datapartially or even at allso you can rule out damaging a new system with your old data.

My 80gb cheche01 dose that alot with PS2 games Its obviously not as old as yours, but it sure is annoying :x Try keeping it in a cool place. My room is really hot all the time. When I run my 80 i keep my windows and doors open for some extra air flow.

What about the HDMI cables or component cables.Always check your cables first and then the TV.Dont format your HDD or reset to factory settings.

Your RSX graphics processor has overheating producing graphical artifacts. The good news is that if it is just overheating, you can work to cool it off. The bad news would be if your RSX has been physically damaged. If you cool your system down and it still artifacts, send your PS3 in for service.

i looked up artifacting, and that's exactly what i have. but my ps3 is not in a hot place and has never overheated and it still does that even when cool.

That is why I mentioned that the RSX may indeed have permanent physical damage. Send it in for service - it will never just "get better" on its own. If you are keeping it cool you are doing all that you can do. IMO this is beyond you replacing the thermal paste. From tweaking computers for years, I'll tell you that sometimes these things happen. I will say though, I am NOT impressed with how Sony has chosen to cool the Cell or the RSX... they basically put crappy thermal compound under bulky thermal blocks and say that is an adequate cooling method. Son, I am dissapoint.

Maybe the inside Fan is all dusty and need a clean. In this case you need to send it to Sony or open it by yourself to clean it.
