Do you guys prefer to get your games on release day, or wait until the GOTY/Complete edition is out with all of the DLC included? I recently changed my policy on games and I'd rather wait until all of the DLC is released; this also allows all the bugs to be fixed by this time. What do you guys think?

If its a game I'm interested in, I'll buy it day one, I don't see the point in waiting a year for a GOTY edition (that may or may not come)just to save a few bucks, if I'm desperate to play it. And if I enjoyed the game I'll buy the DLC depending on the price and what it adds to the game.

Depends. I generally wait a little while to buy a game I want so I can get it for half the price or less a few months later while I'm playing other games in the meantime. I wouldn't go as far as waiting for bundled DLC version, especially if it's a game I'm eager to play. I lucked out on getting Borderlands and all of its DLC for like $15 a while back, but that was a game that didn't interest me for a long time, but I ended up getting a great value on it and enjoying it. Most DLC is a rip-off, so I try to avoid purchasing it alone as much as possible.

The only games i got on its release day where Assassins Creed 2, GTA4, Skyrim, Doom 3 and MGS4. Doom 3 i only got because i was working and had plenty of time getting it as my bus service was rubbish again lol. I plan on getting AC3 when it comes out. Apart from that, i don't know of any good game that would make me want to buy it :/

If I really want the game then I buy it day one, I dont wait for GOTY editions generally as most of the time its multiplayer content that is best played when it launched. I dont mind supporting developers I like or series etc.

I normally wait until I can pick up the GOTY edition for $20-$30. I am in no rush to spend $60 when I can get 2-3 games for that same price and with all the DLC included like I got with my Batman AA and Uncharted 2. The main reason I have no problem doing this is because I just got my PS3 last Christmas, so I have a huge backlog to full before I work on current releases. That's why I don't care that the PS3 doesn't have many good exclusives coming this year. I still have like 30 games to buy before I catch up to current releases.

I used to be all about getting games when they were 'hot' but now I rather wait and save a few bucks by picking it up a bit later. It's amazing how quickly the price drops for some games.

When they're cheap, which also typically (and happily) coincides with the Game of the Year or "complete" editions. To me, 95% of the games released these days simply aren't worth the $60. I have close to 100 games, and I don't think I paid more than $30 for any of them. And the ones I did pay $30 or better for were collections (Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, Ratchet and Clank, etc.), relatively new releases that I caught on sale (like Black Friday, where games just a few months old are marked down to half price), or games I felt I absolutely had to have right away and/or knew I would play and replay and replay for dozens, if not hundreds of hours, making the game well worth the full retail price. It's just hard for me to justify spending $60 on a game I know I'll likely only play once, maybe twice.

3 months to a year later depending on how cheap I can get it for on e-bay and if it's the type of game that will just release another game with all the DLC in it later on. No point in paying for DLC.

Usually I wait a few days to get it - in case of any nasty surprise problems, bugs, hacks etc. Like Error whatever-it-was with Diablo III. And since I don't particularly care about DLC (you can guess why), I don't bother waiting for the complete editions for I'd much rather play them now, then later for some stupid DLC

Almost always when I think the price is right.

Some games though, first day, like Dirt Showdown or Midway Arcade Origins.

Preorder if really good, budget buy if there will be a GOTY / game has very little (re)play value.

Most titles, about 99%, I buy when they get to $15 or under, new or used. I very, VERY rarely buy something Day-One. I got "LA Noire" and "Black Ops", and I just got "XCOM: Enemy Unknown" because I want to support a fantastic game - Everyone should check it out, it's my GOTY. But even titles I drool over, I wait for the price to drop and play my backlog in the meantime. I really don't care about leader boards, or online play in my gaming, so there's never a hurry.

I tend to wait for Complete Editions to come out. I've only had a PS3 recently, so my backlog for current gen games is huge. Tend to wait for sales as well. GTA V is probably the only day 1 purchase for me.

Considering I suffer from "gamer's block" syndrome, I rarely buy day one games now, since I can get bored with games very easy and it's not even the game's own issue, but mine. There are rare exceptions, like Assassin's Creed III.

It used to be day 1 with just about everything. I have a pile of unfinished games across various platforms so most future purchases will have to wait a couple of months. There will be some exceptions like AC III, GoW: A, & GTA V.

Usually I buy them randomly, but lately there haven't been any great titles to deserve even a random pick-up, so the next game I'm buying is probably GTAV.

Depends on...

1. ...If I'm highly interested I buy it as soon as I can
2. ...If I'm medium interested I buy it when it's cheap
3. ...If it's a game I was only slightly interested in by hearing about it somewhere or reading about it and the general statement is it's good and I see it for cheap like 10 I get it even if it's usually not my cup of tea

Of course it depends. I dont tend to buy DLC for a multiplayer portion of the game, so i buy GotY editions of singleplayer games. I did this, MK: Komplete Edition (the DLC character's prices were a rip-off) and Batman: Arkham City. Singleplyer games can wait but for games like Mass Effect 3 which i bought after bout a month after its launch, even MK: Komplete Edition too. The only games i have bought on day one, just like most of you for CoD and FIFA, me Assassins Creed. Also there is no relation between a casual gamer (tablet gaming) and not being able to buy games day one especially in the PAL regions where games are overpriced.

It depends quite a bit.

I mostly play RPG games, so for me it's a pretty much a day 1 purchase especially considering good RPG games you can count on your one hand in a year release.

For any other game however, I always wait until the price drops down to my comfortable levels, be it digital or physical copy and I mean down to 30$, 20$ dollars and below.

DLC I care much less for, for example - Dragon Age: Origins had good few DLC and I waited until the so called Collection came out.

Depends, if it a triple A title I will preorder and buy day 1. If its a game I am interested in but not a Triple A title I will wait for reviews, then untimately purchase it, regardless :P

Depends on what games are on sale, or if i'll be getting a bargain. For games im anticipating, usually within the first 2 weeks if I feel the price is justified.

If it's a must have for me such as LBP or Gears, then day one. Everything else waits until the price is right such as....Rage for $5 at BB or NFS Most wanted for $4.99 at BB.

If it is a must have game. Day one. Otherwise I am content to wait. I try not the buy Greatest hits versions Since I don't like the Red cases. About 20% of my games are day 1, 50% are 1-5 months later. 20% are Game of year with all DLC. and 10% are very very late.

I never pre-ordered, god knows how many disappointments i avoided that way. I usually wait for the verdict of the reviewers. if its an 8.5 or better i get it, if its less and i really want to play it either way, i wait for a used copy...
