I think It was confirmed for Oct 14?Logan832
That's an old date, it most likely won't be out in a while yet.
In this document: Home Development Q&A (PDF) (published Wed 7th March 2007) they say:
Q: What is the timeline for rollout?
Closed Beta (appx. 15,000 users): April - August
Open Beta (appx. 50,000 users): August - October
Service Live (50,000+): October
We're halfway through September, and there is still no open beta, which means they're behind schedule.
In this interview from yesterday: ( Sony Chiefs on Web 2.0 and gaming ) they say:
Q: When is Home going to kick off?
Peter Edward: We're still in closed beta at the moment, and we're looking to escalate the numbers in a controlled fashion. I don't think there's any benefit from just opening the floodgates on day one and letting everybody in. We want to scale up the numbers so we can get feedback from the users and find out how they're using the service.
So by the sound of it they will have extensive open beta testing before launching Home.
In conclusion; Sony hasn't given us a release date recently. I think October is lost, Home will come later than that.
That's the closest to an exact date you'll get atm. =)

Let's think back to both April and July shall we. Both of those months, boards on here were flooded with "I GOT HOME!!!!!" topics. Meaning....the open beta is on schedule. 50,000 global is a TINY number which is why so many don't have it and why the beta is usually dead as far as number of people are concerned. Time and time again Phil Harrison has said, "The Home Beta is on schedule." TGS is only a week away. Don't you think that would be a pretty good place to make a big announcement like a firm launch date for home. I sure do. That would also be the reason why they're saying they haven't confirmed that date when it hit message boards (just like they did with the announcement of Home at GDC) so that they can make the big announcement and make everyone happy.
In conclusion, I don't think the October date is lost. I'm not saying I definitely think its October but I think there's still a pretty good chance of it.
When do you intend to release Home to the public?
Well that's the interesting thing. One of the challenges that we have is to get over the mentality of Home being your typical product launch. In the past we'd make a game, put it on a disc and launch it in the shops. But this is so different. It's already out there in a closed beta and we're going to an open beta in the next couple of months and then it will be available on the Cross Media Bar soon after. Please Log In to post.
