when is sony going to match xbox live?

ok , it's a sad day . already i have had three ps3 friends buy a 360 becuase they are sick of the lag online and the poor ps3 setup. they went over to the 360 elite and they all reckon it leaves the ps3 for dead.

is sony going to take it to live or what? i'm a sony fan through and through but you have gotta admit that this is a bit of a joke. live has been around for ages (5 years or something) and sony has still done nothing about it. evewryone say this home thing will be good but thats not going to match the services and setup of xbox live. home just looks like second life or the sims.

does anyone know what the hell sony are planning in regards to thier online future?

they will probably match live when psn is free.. oh wait..

and when can xbox can boast being 100% lag free.. oh wait..

Trust me, when HOME comes out, Xbox Live wont be able to touch it. I had Xbox Live, but cancelled my account because I couldn't stand that crap anymore. Achievements are aimed at little kids with nothing better to do. Too many people brag about their Gamerscore and lets face it; Halo 3 was garbage compared to the hype it got. I only kept Live for Gears, and one can only play that game online for so long.

Also, Sony said it themselves that HOME is a huge project, so it takes time my friend. You can pimp out your crib, your avatar, play online mini games, listen to music, watch movies online with other people, earn trophies for all your games...I mean cmon, Live aint doing that, at least not yet, and it wouldn't be free like PSN. (Sorry for the rambling, but I want Home as much as the next person)

hey i love it how it's free, i reckon live is just another money making vehicle from microsoft , it's just the services that psn lacks . and from what i have heard live has less lagg. people in australia rexckon then can play halo against people in america with no lagg. there are no ps3 games like that. jaredrichards3

Have you ever tried RFOM?

If the online experience came down to lag vs. no lag then I could see where most of the comments here make sense. Both platforms have lag at different times. But Live is the better online service simply because of the features that it offers. What you get with PSN is a very basic interface with decent connectivity. You get just enough to be able to play online and for most people that's all that's important.

Honestly, I agree with some of the others that PSN will match the overall Live experience when Sony puts as much money into it as Microsoft puts into Live. Either that will never happen or Sony will start charging to make it happen.

There is nothing that LIVE has that PSN lacks. Many PS3 games dont even use PSN they use their own solution, like UT3 for example. And the stuff about lag is a total lie. LIVE is more prone to lag as its based on private hosts while on the PS3 many games have dedicated servers, and in countries like Ozy and NZ where the net service quality is totaly crap then dedicated wins every time.teebeenz

Wow, I like how people are complaining about a service that is FREE!!!! I never would have played online if it wasnt free....So stop *****ing and complaining about a service that is free, as apposed to 60 bucks a year....And your lagging probably because your internet sucks...Anyways thats my 2 cents :)rahul_batta

one month i used up all of my bandwith and i played online with no lag against americans my friend uesd upp all of his bandwith he tried to play people anywer in the world and it lagged for him nuff saiddelta4062

I tell that to kids. And it like they dont believe me. On my dad grave, I dont see a difference from offline to on. No lag yet at all! Besides a few EA games. But thats EA, and they su** so? And Will see if that holds for the PS3 or not? But so far so good. I mean Motostorm online is just like the AI. The cars dont jump, the wrecks in front ofy ou look sick good. With 10+ "or so" racers going crazy on each other. Its pretty amazing to watch, makes it hard to concentrate on playing.

the only PS3 game that i played online recently that had Latency problems was UT3... Lag is unavoidable no matter how much money the service provider leeches off of you. Sometimes you have a lot of lag sometimes you don't. Just the way things go.

So i don't see how your friends deduct that PSN has terrible lag and Live doesn't

First off, PSN is a free service! to tell you the truth, I wouldnt play online nearly as much as I do if it cost money,especially 50 bucks, thats almost another game i could buy instead. Now about the lag part, 90% of the time it depends on the players connection, so both systems obviously get it. Im generous and shut down all other broadband usage so all its connection power goes to the playstation 3. IMO, its FREE, WHO CARES IF YOUR FRIENDS SWTICHED OVER, ALL OF MY FRIENDS EXCEPT TWO HAVE 360'S, BUT IM HAPPY WITH MY PS3!

Got both a PS3 and a 360 and you are living in denial guys if you think the PSN network is better or even equal to Xbox live.

If it was they would not be bringing out home.

Cool that its free but you would not pay for so little functionality anyway and Sony know that or they probably would also charge.

There is no reason why the Sony in time will not be equal or even beat Xbox live, just because Microsoft have had a head start does not mean they have won the race, but at the moment it is simply a queation of you get what you pay for and if you pay nothing you get nothing.

The good thing is in being forced into not being able to charge for the PSN it hopefully means when it gets better they will not be able to charge without losing a lot of face.

They would have to hope Microsoft do not make it a free service as that would make it even worse for them.

The lag issue is nonsenese i have played smoothly on both systems and played with terrible lag on both systems, its just down to the game , the number of people online and the spread of people from around the world in the game, have to say I have played on both a lot and rarely found any lag so you may find its your own setup thats causing you problems rather than Live or PSN.

Its my one weakness, typing. Its amazing I can play a guitar pretty decent. And cant hit a letter.
