Protip: 1080i is worse than 720p for games. Sorry dude. No, I won't explain why, do a little research.WalterPeck
Alrighty, I heard that too, but obviously 1080p is better than 720p. Anywho, I'll just look for a half decent game in 1080 to see the difference.
I have a nice 1080p tv to watch the blu ray on, and I just realized Resistance and Motorstom only go to 720P. My question is when will it be standard to be able to push it up for us suckers who bought the hdmi cables to 1080i or 1080p.immortality20While there are games which do 1080 native, Rainbow 6 Vegas is the first PS3 game to support scaling., but dont use it unless you need to, to get a HD res.
Ninja Gaiden Sigma is 1080p at 60 fps exclusive to PS3.el_rikaYou serious? I might just have to get that and play it on my 1080i (hey, it's close) 37" LCD HDTV.
I dont know if someone already said this i couldnt really be bothered to look, as far as i know Ridge racer and Virtua tennis are already in 1080p to be honest you probably cant even notice the difference even if the resolution was increased its only noticeable on really big screens if you have around 32" like me then you wouldnt notice transistion from one to the other whereas on my dads TV which is 50" its slightly more noticeable.
Hardly worth the investment if you ask me should of spent the money on some new threads and gone and got yourself laid oh well each to there own i guess.

There quite a bit of difference between 1080i and 1080p, in both resolution and dynamic, but that is not to say that it won't look amazing on you display. And the game is great too :)

LOL, sorry to but in, but seriously :) , every dang day I see someone posting that they have a 1080i LCD when there is no such thing. LCDs are progressive only, they can't display in an interlaced mode. The only way to show full 1080i resolution on a LCD is literally to have a 1080p tv, and then a rare one that properly inverse tecelines 1080i back into 1080p at 30fps without throwing away a single line during deinterlacing.
In the case of this guys 37inch LCD, it's not 1080i, it only supports 1080i input. If it's not 1080p then that means it's a 720p or sometimes 1366*768 (768p) resolution. Giving it 1080i will only downscale to 720p-768p resolution then screw up the framerate as 1080i is 30fps max because each frame is split into two fields, thus limiting the signal to 60 half frames, while if you picked 720p that matches your get 60 full frames.
You almost were going to display it the worst possible way by picking 1080i for your tv. Only thing that could happen is jaggies look less because the scaling process blends them, but then again during fast motion the tv probably can't interlace correctly and will show 540 lines creating worse horizontal aliasing from every other line missing, but stills and slow motion should resolve fine.

Ok let me see if I got this straight, my 720p LCD accepts 1080i input, but I'd be better off setting it to display in 720? Because the PS3 defaulted to 1080i, but if its better to be in 720 then thats what I want to do.

Yes, no point in making the game output at 1080i at 30fps to force your 720p LCD to convert it to 720p at 30fps with other sideeffects when the PS3 could have just outputed 720p at 60fps to begin with.
720p literally means 1280*720 pixels. Though, most LCDs come in 768p (1366*768) because it's easier to make. So there's no way to fully show 1080i that's 1920*1080 on those panels as you'd literally need at 1080p LCD.. Though, to get more complicated, if your tv is technically 768p, then it has to upscale 720p to that, thus meaning your tv is not showing the best it can at 768p. Giving it 1080i that's higher than 768p and downscaled to it might show more detail, but only in stills and slow motion at 30fps, and any fast motion it might throw out the other interlaced fields and show 540p during those fast moments.
The thing is, 720p HDTVs need to support 1080i, as a lot of tv HD stations are 1080i, a lot of HD Camcorders are 1080i, so it would suck if your tv had a black screen for your HD camera and HD shows. And even the PS3 had an issue where it would only play blu-ray movies at 1080i and 1080p, so again the 1080i support came in handy to convert it to 720p because the PS3 didn't do it until one of the recent updates.
