where are all the good RPG games???

Calm Down.

Would rather have a rushed RPG so you can RANT more about or an RPG thats better then the rest?

rpg's have always taken a long time to make, because of storyline, large worlds, complex gameplay, or whatever. I think they will come, there is still hope!

not like the other consoles have been doing any better in that area though..

yeah u right we need lot of rpg, when i look at 360 having many rpg i get angry, for me rpg is best genre that, damn sony console don't have at less any rpg at all, to be honest thinking of pick 360.

360's RPG:

Indeed. I know I've been killing my time on this one for the past two weeks. Currently 60 hours in and counting.

Micrcrap pays developers for "timed exclusivity", meaning they compensate the non sales on the other platform by giving them an approximate amount of money that is the equivalent to what the developer would have earned in sales of the game. The problem is that they add a clause where the said developer cannot reveal the time length when the game will be released for the other platform, making them LIARS because they say it will NEVER come to the other platform.

Examples from the past : Enchanted arms, Lost planet, Eternal sonata, Bioshock.

Games that will eventually come : Star ocean 4, Tales of Vesperia, GTA downloadable content, Mass effect

Games are much more expensive to produce this generation, and really impressive RPGs were alreadya pricey endeavor last generation. Today it is going to take more money and much more time to develop games, particularly rpgs, so it is natural that there are going to be less. Because of this "restructuring" it is going to take time for developers to start churning out games like they were at the end of the PS2 cycle.

The end of the PS2 cycle spoiled us all, like 50 new games every day...makes us quite impatient.

As for the XBox sure they have some rpgs, they are doing this as a marketing move to capture some of sonys fanbase. Sony produced many FPS because those are popular and were selling extremely well on the 360, so they thought they could capture part of that audience. It was unexpected that Microsoft would try to turn the tables on them and try to claim the RPG market, but that is what they are trying to do, and in the end I think this is a GOOD thing.

Think about it, if sony sees its precious RPG fanbase moving to the 360 then what do you think they are going to try to do. They are going to try and recapture that market. It is possible that in the next few years we will see a new surge of RPGs that will satisfy us untill the next generation when the same draught will come and more people will begin to cry.

Also if can't enjoy the masterpeice of gameplay that is Disgaea then Foo on you. Then again we all have our own opinions, I'm sure there are games out there that you like that I don't but oh well, hatred is the way of the gamer these days right? Ok enough with my very long post basically about nothing. *Bamf*

Most of the JRPG's on 360 are not that great. Lost Odyssey is just Final Fantasy 4 gameplay with the exploration of Final Fantasy 10. Blue Dragon is a cheap Dragon Quest rip off. Eternal Sonata was alright, but the combat got a bit too repetitive. Tales of Vesperia seems pretty good. Infinite Undiscovery just feels like Star Ocean only with a different name. I got a 360 for JRPG's but most of them on it aren't worth mentioning. You only feel that way because the PS3 doesn't have RPG's. You aren't missing out.

I have been wondering the same thing... PS3 should be home to some amazing RPG action yet to date the offerings have been mediocre and forgettable...

as for ps3, they're getting shafted for now, but i think atlus is being very carefull about rpg's and what platform they release it on....put it all on one basket is dangerous for companies like them.

as far as se, they always jump ship...but they are at least giving us a couple of games...rather have 60% support rather than none...

at this rate, with all the FPS games coming to PS3 and all the RPGs goin to Xbox, all the xbox owners will move to ps3 and all the ps3 owners will move to xbox lol. its stupid, the consoles should have just stuck with the games that defined them.

like the topic says, where are all the good rpg games. this is the got damn playstation 3. playstation is known for good rpg games. and yet, where are they. none to be found. we have no real good rpg games. we dont star oceans, of final fantasy, kingdom hearts, anything. c'mon now. untold legends, oblivion, games like those are not considered as rpg games. yes they are classified as rpg. but they are mainly meant to be action adventure games. main reason i got a ps3, was for rpg games. and yet none to be found. answers anyone????????????????????????DorkiieTimmy

Most of the JRPGS are going to DS and PSP. In fact, a new star ocean comes out on PSP soon! The next gen stuff is going straight to Xbox right now. I'm playing Tales of Vesperia and it's amazing. If you are a RPG fan, u have to own all systems these days. It's sad.

If you mean good RPG's you need to pick up a handheld system. The DS and PSP are getting better RPG's than are coming out for the consoles so far. If you just want any RPG, then the 360 is your best bet. Mass Effect was a good game and I like the recently released tales game, but Blue Dragon was so bad I never even bought it after playing the demo, Undiscovery is a hugely flawed game and Lost Oddesy isn't anything special. If you're hoping for the RPG golden age of the PS1 and PS2, I think it'll take a few years at least. We'll see what happens at TGS. Keep an eye out for Valkyrie Chronicles though, that is supposed to be a good one.Asage429

very very well said man portables have great rpgs n upcomming but ps3 isent left in the dust at all its all comming n valkyria chronicles is out very soon.. but its just the principal i know so far all the jrps on xbox suck big time.. but that will prolly change esspecially when star ocean 4 comes out... but i know all will just be a timed release but it just seems like such a slap in the face square enix n similair devs throwing ther ps fans to the side for money.. i really dont think it will benefitthem in the long run.. unless they reconsile ther mistakes really soon then it might bring alot of 360 ff13 users over to ps3 ^^moreso because ff13 will be better on ps3 and it seems ff13 and other ff projects will be ps3 only..

man no offence but you got white night story accuratly pinned n eternal sonata which i couldnt care less for and i guess your most likely right about the last remnant.. i duno just seems to me as a game that will be made just cus they can.. i hope it will be good but i dont see it happening especially after all this infinite uniscovery dragon quest swords stuff.. but man your totally wrong about rise of the argonaughts and valkkyria chronicles n esspecially fallout 3 man these titles will be aaa staples of the future on ps3 gaming man you will see!
