as far as I know, there hasnt been a game that has 1080p. Games that I have which says 1080p on the box are GTA4, COD4, Ninja Gaiden, MGS4, Lair, and Virtua Fighter 5. which are not 1080p, it is rendered at a resolution of 720p or below and UPSCALE to 1080p which doesnt make the picture any better, just so Sony could say that ps3 has 1080p games.

I know u guys probably dont care how the graphics looks just how good the games are. but the fact that Sony is lying to us pisses me off.

I also want to play 1080p games to see what it looks like. because 720p looks damn good.

Im not saying games dont look good right now. I am saying Sony is not backing up what they said. which henceforth makes them liers

Actually...

MGS4 is 1080p native. My Sony Bravia XBR4 shows off the display setting when playing games and it clearly shows MGS4 at 1080p. Same for Ninja Gaiden Sigma and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue.

Games like GTA IV and Call of Duty 4 automatically scale down to the native 720p signal.

Do your research before whining on the boards.

Does it? all the games I own would just upscale it, u should test it, go back between 1080p and 720p and see if there is a difference.

ya, but can you even tell the dif? maybe i am just saying that cause i have a 1080i, i have seen 1080p and it does look a bit better, but nothing to complain about, i heard it takes time to design a ps3 game on 1080p because the procecer is very complex, this is why **** developers like EA dont take thier time with ps3 games and they turn out they just make it 720p, but if a company spends time with thier games it will be full 1080p

mostly up to game developers, however games from Sony should have already started to be native 1080.

On another note I still don't remember Sony promising all games to be 1080p, maybe the system can do it, but it seems that it's not an easy thing to do (cost-wise or programming-wise) and it's up to the developers. Now if they want to multiplat a game maybe that could cause more problems?

When everything is said and done the PS3 system is still in it's early life, I think the real graphics are still ahead especially 2010 and with devs developing for PS3 first (and getting more acquainted to it) I'm sure many 1080 games will be here soon. If that bothers you then give me your PS3.

I notice something in mgs4, when the texture and details looks really good, the framerate goes wayyy down. when texture are muddy and ugly, the frame rate is really good. could it be that you can only have one or the other, either good graphics or good framerate? is this kojima's fault or is it the limitation of the ps3? answer me and you can have my ps3.

1080i and 1080p are the exact same in terms of quality, only diff is rendering sequence on screen thus 1080p is "smoother" at a maximum of 60 frames where 1080i is capped at 30fps interpolation.... few people saying theres a quality difference.... people think about what your saying before spewing it....

Making the games in 1080p would be up to the developers really and if the game developers actually made the games in 1080p that would ruin the experience for the people who dont have a 1080p tv since they would be playing a downscaled version just as the people who have a sdtv are treated with a lesser gaming experience. Besides, kojima filled up an entire blu ray making the game 720p native, if they did 1080p the game wouldve taken a longer amount of time to make and would have needed 2 blu rays which would drive up the cost price and then we would have to pay more for the game. Most games are not even made in 720p native yet, the 1080p games will come but i doubt it will be any time soon seeing as how hard and costly game developing is already.

I read an interview with the guys behind UNCHARTED: DRAKE'S FORTUNE and they said that as powerfull as the Sony PS3 is ... it really can't handle "high" frame rates at 1080p so almost all graphics intensive games will be 720p in order to achieve good frame rates.

I belive some of the PixelJunk games are 1080p but then again the graphics aren't as intense as something like UNCHARTED or HEAVENLY SWORD or MGS4 etc.

true dat, I do see some framerate drops when the games get intense. hopefully in the future they will some how find a way around that flaw to achieve high framerate and 1080p resolution.

I think echochrome is in 1080p lol.

What has SONY TO do anyting with it?

Talk to lazy developers not Sony who is only making and marketing ps3.

SONY said PS3 is capable running games in full hd and it surely is.

Pixeljunk monsters and Super Stardust HD are in 1080P...And I thought MGS4 was 1080P, but you're right, it's upscaled...

Found a link with some more games that should be 1080P, Don't know how correct it is, but looks right.

I did my research, mgs4 and sigma are in 720p, it is set to upscale to 1080p on start, set your ps3 to 720p and see if there is a difference. if you look closely, the pixel are all blurry. why dont u do your research before runnin your mouth on the board.

I didn't think that the PS3 would upscale PS3 games to anything higher than their native resolution. When did it start upscaling 720p games to 1080p?

When you bought the ps3 it was ensured that you'd be dissapointed an youll probably will be dissapointed till 2009/2010 when sony can make their games faster.

Sony lies alot they tell you all these things but they come years later FF13,home in game xmb took awhile but not as long as the other 2. God of WAr 2 just get another console to occupy your time like a wii or a 360 till sony gets their act together

Actually ... your PS3 is upscaling it to 1080p before it leaves the box, so when it gets to the TV, it is a 1080p image, so that's what your tv thinks it is, and it is 1080p ... upscaled.

Superstardust is 1080p no? GT Prologue too. So there. Put your pitchforks down and go home.

how come my honda says it goes 140 but it stalls at 120 mph because they made it that way. how can it be a lie when the ps 3 does 1080p. how can these develop teams get 100% out of the ps 3 in its first 2 1/2 years. when the ps 3 is dead no longer in production and the games have are not 1080p then wine about it. sony does not lie they promote there system. so does the ps 3 do 1080p yes it does. getting the games to that level is there next feat.

every one saying 4d there are games that already do this.

example the mud in motorstorm gets thicker and more muddy every lap you do because of the tire tracks it makes. that is 4d which = time.

so there i proved the were they heck is the 4d guy wrong.

name me another racing game that remebers all 16 cars tire tracks in every lap that affects the driving the 4 lap around.

Oh dear, someone who hasn't done their research telling someone else to do their research (someone who actually has), get your torches at the ready!!

Let me show you my "+5 Torch of bewildering";
Your TV is just telling you what res it's currently displaying at, not what the game's actually rendering, if you untick 720p under display settings GTAIV and CoD4 will magically become native 1080p :O

The PS3 isn't powerful enough to render anything decent at 1080p

After playing the latest Pirates game at 1080p, if they are not going to put effort into using it to its advantage they shouldn't. Pirates is definetely just a 720p game upscaled at the last minute and poorly done at that.

  3. 2 player splitscreen offline

Neither 360 or PS3 has any real true 1080p games. WIth the exception of maybe MGS4 every game on both consoles is upscaled from 720p or 640p in a few cases. 1080p is just a marketing slogan for now to sucker you into buying something much like the useless term "next-gen". Devs wont be making 1080p games the norm for quite some time, its too much work for them when not alot of people even have 1080p sets. Hell the majority of people still play on SD-TVs. Untill the HD-TV market fully matures and HD-TVs are in more homes and 1080p especially is in more homes devs wont waste time or money making the game 1080p when they can just upscale it with no effort.

i have read in other posts that ps3 up-scales games such as uncharted and mgs4 to 1080p, even though they are 720p native. I have a samsung 1080p had tv, and ps3 is connected via the sony ps3 hdmi cable, and when i play these games and click on the info to see what the display resolution is, it shows that the game is being displayed at 720p.

I have the ps3 set up to automatic display settings, and it recognizes that i have 1080p, 1080i, 720p capabilites. I have also tested this, and the xmb is displayed at 1080p, but when the game starts up, the hdmi handshake blanks out my screen for like 5 seconds and changes the display to 720p.

so my question is do i have to do something, or set something in order for the ps3 to upscale the display resolution to 1080p?

If this has been answered before, sorry i missed it. thanks for the help. i'm a new member, and relatively new ps3 owner, getting back to my gaming ways....boy is it an expensive habit!!!!

Are you sure about Uncharted? I have a similar set up and when the screen flickers when I start the game it switches out of 1080 to 720 for Uncharted. It doesn't do any upscaling for me. Also MGS4 is a true 1080p game. It isn't upscaled 720p which is what any other game is when it says that it supports 1080p.

Ket87, thanks for responding. I haven't checked the resolution on MGS4 since my brother in law is borrowing it (shame since he should have his own copy), but will have to check it.

I was saying that Uncharted displays on 720P, not 1080P, and I have been reading some posts on Gamespot that it is upscaled to 1080p with a new patch. I loaded Uncharted last night to check this out, and it didn't happen automatically. I had to go to ps3's display settings and force 1080p only, and this made Uncharted display on 1080p, although I have to admit that I didn't really see a difference between the 1080p and the 720p screens. This game looks amazing.

I will be checking this weekend on MGS4 and report back. I may also be ignorant by what upscaling means. I assume that means that when I click info on my tv it should display the fact that the resolution is 1080p or 1080i, not 720p as it does for uncharted without me forcing the 1080p.....not sure if it is clear.

Again guys thanks for any help and all responses!
