Where do Sony make their money with the PS3?

I heard after 2 years they come to your house and take your pets for kebab meat (that's what someone at work told me anyway).

 Honestly?  The same way sports team and singers make a profit, sales of merchadise (games, controllers, eye toys, remote contorls, leads, downloadable content, etc, etc).  If everyone that goes to a concert buys a t-shirt and a programme the singer gets a whole lot of cash.

Michael Jackson's last world tour saw each concert costing $7million to put on, but he'd make the money back with profit from merchandise everytime.

I'm pretty sure I read that only the PS3 was making a loss on every console sold... ?

Perhaps Microsoft have gone past the stage of making a loss then, but they were to being with.

its a nice myth that nintendo make profit from the wii but they do loose money per unit. it makes less to make then they sell it for but it cost more to make then nintendo sell to retailer suppliers.  

They actually probably make all there money from Brazil.. :lol:

Wiki claims Brasil is the most expensive place to buy a PS3 at $1700.. oh ****! I paid £425. for mine > ($800 ish)

Every company makes their money back via software.

Eventually, as the console progresses thru its lifespan and the cost of technology drops and the manufacturing efficiency improves, the company will begin to profit off the hardware sales as well.

No worries...if a company couldn't make money off their console, we wouldn't see a next generation model from them.

Microsoft is actually under fire for continually LOSING money despite their fantastic showing with the Xbox360 thus far. You really need to brush up on your research and then take your inflammatory comments over to System Wars where they would be better appreciated.

i like the way you call someone else uneducated trolling and you do it yourself, nintendo don't make money from the wii console. they make it for slightly less then they sell for but your forgetting nintendo don't sell to us they sell to supliers who sell to shops who sell to us. Nintendo make a small lose i garantee you. 

At the moment they dont. Sony might make money of the ps3 in 2009. Until then they will most likely lose money.

MS are still losing money on the 360. It takes a at least a few years to make money of a console when you sell the console for less than it costs to build and develop it.

You have to sell a lot of games and controllers and stuff to make a profit.

Nintendo on the other hand does not sell consoles at a loss. They dont make much per console. I think its somewhere around 1-5$ or something like that but at least they dont lose money.

10 Cents on every BluRay sold ever BluRay has alread sold 1million units thats 10million into Sony's pocket, multiply that for the next decade and you'll get a whiff of Sony's money.

Licensing fees on all PS3 related gear, i.e peripherals, add ons, controllers etc.

$30 Markup on all accessories sold for the console. Those sixaxxis controls don't really cost 50 dollars more like 3 dollars to produce. Those official Sony cables are worth $2-3 tops. 

They lose $200 on each console but rape you on royalty fees, licensing fees, peripheral mark ups, BluRay royalty, and etc etc. 

Sony ain't stupid they are not in it for love, they do it for profit.
