Yea. I have PS3 40 GB for Christmas last year. Been havin a blast with it, then I noticed it. I looked at my system information, and it said I only had 13 GB left! Christmas hasn't even rolled around again yet, and i've already used over half of my memory. What's the deal?? Is it the demos? By the way, I only have 8 games, so thats not the issue. And if i restored my system memory, would it delete my friends list and account name too, even if i backed up my games and pics? I dont get wats up. help.

The majority of it may have been taken from install data from your BluRay titles, since that's becoming more and more common with the system.
You can check how much each game is using on the XMB by scrolling to the top folder (should be labelled "Game Data") of the Game bar and examining the contents.
Installs, demos, high def vids, etc. It adds up FAST.Duckman5
a 5GB install will do that. You said you have 8 games, I don't know what those games are, but if they are MGS4, DMC 4, Oblivion, or pretty much any other big game, you are losing like 4GB per game. Add that up with the saves, videos, and demos, and you are losing a LOT of memory.

Just upgrade the hard drive. Friends list will stay intact. If you don't back up you will have to reinstall and redownload everything.

Depends on what games you have. MGS4, GTA4, and Uncharted install 4 gigs EACH in your games/system data file. As do many other games. Then you have save files as well taking up space. There are many demos on PSN that are a gig or more. So just these few things can very quickly suck up space.
Plus, that 40 gigs of space is really only 37 I believe.
