Yep, you are right. Rockstar actually did say that the reason for the delay is because Microsoft said they want to make the game playable without a hard drive for the 360 core users. In turn, Rockstar has to find a way to crunch the game enough to fit on the disc while not cause too long of load times. They already said the PS3 version was quite easy to make and did not cause any issues. They are even said they are trying to make the game run smooth on PS3 while dealing with this 360 issue.
what if they use 2 disk
extremedogs003
then they'll have to get used to swapping the discs often, it's afree roam game
I don't think there was a major delay caused by either console. I believe Take Two and Rockstar threw out some rediculous release date when they really had no clue. Once the release started getting closer, they stuck with it to try and ease all the share holder complaining. Think about it, How do you come out 2 to 3 months before your game release and say you are 6 to 9 months off pace. Do you really think rockstar is that stupid as if they have never made a game before?zaney
While everyone thinks it's the PS3's development problems fault, that's not true, because GTA's development team has stated many times the game is a PS3 developed title that was brought to the 360. More than likely they delayed it for 2 reasons,
1) With its release nearby Halo 3, they probably wanted to move it out of that launch window to give players a fresh launch date where people will be looking for something new.
2) Waiting until after Christmas means a larger installed base for both PS3, and 360.
Now if this whole issue was something you heard on G4, or whatever, chances are they're going to give it the "OMG it's PS3's fault, and it is teh blowz" because of their mob-mentality uber cool video game fashion sense. Notice in coming months now the whole market mentality will switch to how awesome Wii is, and you'll here the rumor mill shift in their favor.

I don't believe you without a link or some other kind of proof.I call BS.
honestly I don't think they were ready at all.... I don't think it is a programing thing since both sides will helpthem in anyway since this game is a system seller I think for both sides....
Think about it ... were hardly seen anything and the only people that played was developers showing it off to the media....
A 7 month delay on a PS3 game due to 'programming issues' when the developers never reported any development issues on the PS3 is pure ridiculous. It was MS's fault, but because microsoft refused to give the 'HDD required' sticker to the game so that they could make the game require the Hard Drive in order to be played. R* probably found out they got denied by MS a few weeks before the official delay. If thats the case, then you could just ask why didn't they release the PS3 version on time and delay the 360 version? The reason is simple, the contract for exclusive downloadable content on the 360 probably had a clause that all forms of the game must be released simultanously. Personally, this excuse is the most likely because shortly after, R* announced that not only L.A. Noire would be PS3 exclusive, but a brand new franchise they were working on was PS3 exclusive as well. This was probably them giving MS the finger for denying them a holiday release. And yes, a holiday release is that big a deal to a developer. If you beg to differ, just look at the number of big name games coming out from Sept.-Dec. in comparison to every other time period in the year. Yeah, R* is pissed.
I'd say it's either both or none.
PS3: Hard to develop for.
360: Limited disc capacity and no standard HDD
Or maybe they just need more time to make the game and weren't nearly finished?
I'd have to agree that both systems caused the delay.
I do find it odd that the PS3 version was never shown. R* could have shown it saying that PS3 owners have nothing to worry about during E3. Instead they showed the 360 version. Probaly because it was the furthest along.
But on 1up, they were saying before the delay they were concerned about the game. One for the reason I just stated (their experience is that companies don't show the bad version) but that the demos from the 360 they have gotten, while looked nice, ran terible. The framerate took a nose dive when the shooting began in the last demo they got.
So the problem. R* got ambitious. Too ambitious. They are making a game they couldn't have finished on time on either system. I do believe that the 360 version wouldn't be done by the date, but I'm sure it will be done ahead of the new release date.
And as for the harddrive thing. The Elder Scrolls IV game of the year edition requires a harddrive. It has a install disk. I think Microsoft is loosing some of their standards.
Who cares? All I know is that GTA IV coming out next year means that they will release a better final product.
I expect the PS3 version to be awesome simply for the reason that Rockstar can take advantage full advantage of Blu-Ray, the hard drive, and rumble.
GTA and PlayStation have always gone together. It may not be exclusive this time around, but it makes no difference.

same, heard something similar, they had trouble fitting into a DVD. something about using a dual sided one still had trouble with it.

the gamemust be really huge then, arent game DVD's usually around 6-8 gigs or something like that. i dont really see them needing more space, the extra content must be something special if they cant seemget it all on one disc[QUOTE="MGSFan27285"][QUOTE="JoKeR_421"][QUOTE="xxgunslingerxx"][QUOTE="2ndWonder"][QUOTE="da1writer"][QUOTE="X_CAPCOM_X"][QUOTE="extremedogs003"]I think ps3 cause the delay because they need more time to program it .what do you guys think ?

i read some where Rachet and clank is around 21 gig right now.
rage (from the guys who did doom) is around 100gig, but they were able to compress it to fit on 2 dvds.
its a matter of compression and the ammount of content in the game.
9 gig is almost nothing anymore.

I agree with you i mean yeah you got halo 3 a big seller and GTA a big seller so they seen it as the way of saying why would we want them together I mean when you check the release schedule there is no other hot game set to come out with GTA so thats gone be the biggest title to come out in 08 well besides Killzone 2 and Mercenaries 2

Post some evidence with your comment before making such claims. Yes Rockstar said they had a interesting challenge in developing for the 360 core system with no HDD but they didn't mention that as the reason for the delay. On sony's side you can say they were slow in getting out the developing kits for the PS3 to game developers and its their fault. I believe the game in general is simply not done yet for either system.
First off, Sony didn't pay Epic off for unreal tournament 3 being a timed console exclusive. If you think that your an idiot. Many times they admitted that they were way far along on the console development with the PS3 over any other system. Not only that, Epic has also admitted that they were having trouble running the game on the 360, both in terms of content size and lack of standard intergrated HDD. Guess what, 360 games are gonna start being delayed more and more because of this lack of standard HDD. there are exceptions of course, like Oblivion or FFXI. But MS wants to actually have the Core be sellable to the casual market (i.e. Nintendo's market) so they have a crapped version that costs $279 and is holding back their developers.
And to those saying you can't fit GTA4 on a DVD, i'm sorry but its true, you can. That is not what caused the delay. For a game like this, the content needs to be cached off an install base. Hence the Hard Drive necessity. If you don't, it means the game must be able to be 'streamed' off the disc. Basically what that means is the game is fully loaded, no load times between areas or walking in and out of buildings, its all already loaded. The cache is what will cause this true open world effect for GTA4. However, MS is making them make the 360 version of the game be streamed off the disc. It's the same reason those demo's were slowing down when they played 'em. The game is designed too have this extra amount of memory for it to pull from, to get this game on a streamable scale is immensily difficult.
